  • Nearly done! Migration cleanup is mostly done. There are a small number of issues left that we continue to work on, but all the heavy lifting is done. YOU CAN NOT DUAL BOOT THIS.

This is a project page to get the Galaxy SII i9100 back to a tier 2 device,
it is currently using the latest Firefox OS source code from the v1.1.1.

We've done it guys! We have reached the first milestone, BETA! This ROM is now considered stable enough for daily use.

- Microphone (needs testing!)
- Wrong DPI
- Hardware acceleration
- Camera
- Others I may not have discovered yet.

Installation Instructions said:
1. Go to cwm recovery and do a complete backup of your phone.
2. Extract the content of firefoxos_beta_v1_10102013.zip file to your hard drive, using your preferred rar/zip archiver (ex: WinRAR)
3. From your phone, go to mounts and storage, and select the last option, mount USB storage.
4. Copy the folder you extracted from the archive 2013-10-10.16.12.39 to your sdcard in the folder clockworkmod/backup (if you don't have that folder, create it)
5. Wipe data/factory reset (make sure you have a backup)
6. From your phone go to backup and restore -> restore -> 2013-10-10.16.12.39
7. reboot system now
As a final note DO FRICKIN' NOT format your /system, /data or /cache partitions
through the Firefox OS CWMR if your device is susceptible to a eMMC brickbug.
You have been warned.

This release is purely for testing, I need to know what does and doesn't work.
But I'm no programmer, fixes may take a while to be released unless others decide
to contribute.

Preliminary/quick sneak peek into the alpha...

The Setup Wizard cannot seem to detect the Time Zone and whatnot in the specific section, but the time adjusted itself after the phone was setup
Messages work (send and receive)
Sound notifications work. Not sure for music/audio.
Importing of contacts via vcf works
Notification Center/Status Bar is laggy.
No built in screen off when in call ( I assume proximity is not working?)
Calls do not seem to work
Lock/unlock/power button works
Menu and Back button are useless (I assume we can use these somehow?)

For an alpha, this is good progress. If we get HW acceleration working, it would be much bearable. :) As much as I want to be a tester for it, I'm afraid that will have to wait. Good luck with the project!

EDIT @abtekk once I find the time, I'll try to setup a dualboot with it as well and see what I can do.

I think that's to do with geolocation. I'll take a look, though.

Notification Center/Status Bar is laggy.
I believe that is hardware accel.

Probably not.

Calls do not seem to work
No microphone support, that's why.

Menu and Back button are useless (I assume we can use these somehow?)
Firefox OS isn't designed for use of these buttons. I could maybe bind them to another function.

Good luck with the project!
Thank you.

I tried with the latest Dori 9.41 stable, and it doesn't seem to boot to the Firefox partition properly. Needless to say, I'll have to try Siyah later.

EDIT: Seems that prealpha 2 is way smaller than 1. Why is this so? Do we flash it on top of alpha 1 or is it good to go for clean flash?

Siyah must be the only compatable one, then.

Just manage to purge useless crap out of the second release. It's good for a clean flash :).
