Unfortunately TouchWiz Home Has Stopped

Ok... I will start, First thing was to get rid of that stupid swipe up to the Magazine app under the home page of my Sprint Note 3. After I deleted the Magazine apk and odex files, when the home button was hit twice I got an error message "Unfortunately TouchWiz Home Has Stopped Working". My solution was to install NOVA Launcher. After it was setup, I deleted TouchWiz Home .apk and Easy Launcher .apk (TouchWiz Easy Home). The error message has stopped, the home screen does not swipe up anymore (great!!!).

About time !!
Wonderful work mate :) i know i had serach for two days to zero in on a reliable tested list :)
Back then ( about a week back ) I had followed Droidstyles list of bloatware apps and uninstalled most barring samsung HUB and its service and that easy mode apk .
all the rest i murdered mercilessly ;P Of course he is on verizon N3 and ours is sprint , but apart from native vzn apps all the rest are similar and safe to freeze or remove , all the sprint crap i had already removed .
here is his post
http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=52337960&postcount=1089

I regard DS since the time i was using my VERIZON FASCINATE :)
enjoying the look and feel , on to installed the 5x5 lightening fast TW launcher and just loving my monster :)

Unfortunately Sprint ID Has Stopped

I have another one, I deleted the MDMApp.apk. It showed 0.00B on the application manger, thought it was empty. After I deleted it, got an error message " Unfortunately Sprint ID Has Stopped" when I downloaded an app in the play store, ended up restoring my latest backup, and replacing the MDMApp.apk. It may be empty, but it has something to do with e-mail identity and your device identity when using Google Play Store. Here is a site that explains this. http://www.itnews.com.au/BlogEntry/350953,what-is-mdm.aspx Restoring the app did NOT stop the error message !!! Somehow the settings where changed in the Google play store. When I installed Nova launcher and deleted the TouchWis launcher you have to uncheck the "Add icon to Home screen" option, or the play store tries to add an icon the to home page of a now deleted TW launcher and you get the "Unfortunately Sprint ID has Stopped" error message. There is more one fix, you can delete the ID.apk, this stops the error message to, ID.apk installs the sprint default apps, Scout, Messaging +,CBS News, Lockout Security,1Weather, etc. Which showed up the time first booted up your new device. You MUST also, delete Sprint_Installer.apk, or it reinstalls everything on a new boot up. If you delete the default apps you can always find them in the Google Play Store.

Unfortunately Email Has Stopped

First, after receiving an email and clearing it out of notifications, I get the error message "Unfortunately Email Has Stopped". This is caused by either stopping the MyMagazine.apk (doesn't stay stopped) or deleting it (my choice). So, I downloaded a deodexed NC5 copy, pulled Gmail2.apk, and SecEmail_J.apk files. Decompiled them with an APK Tool, and tossed them in a Text Editor. Did several searches could not find the word Magazine in any file in the APK's. SOLUTION : downloaded CloudMagic email app, set up my emails, then deleted SecEmail_J.apk and odex files. Left the Gmail2.apk, and SecExchange.apk files in place, and everything works great with no error messages!!!

Edit : If you have updated from Gmail.apk to Gmail2.apk, Gmail2 allows for Google, and non-Google email accounts to run on it. So all you have to do is delete SecEmail_J.apk and .odex files. Then run all your emails on the Gmail2.apk app and the " Unfortunately Email has stopped " error will be gone !!!

Build.prop ( knox )

As you can see from the image, I'm going to assume the line item builds or tells device to build a KNOX container ? This was still there after I did a KNOX search with Root Explorer. I used the script editor in Root Explorer to remove the line circled in red. So far there have been to problems or error messages. Hopefully just another part KNOX spyware gone !!!

KNOX REMOVAL ( Build.prop )

As many of us know, you can disable KNOX but so far, it is impossible to remove it. I found that after ROOTING my device, once you open SuperSU it asks if you want to disable KNOX ( MANY THANKS TO CHAINFIRE ). I clicked yes, Then installed Root Explorer, and did a search for KNOX. It came up with a dozen or so files, I did a mulit-delete to get rid of them. With that done you end up with two files left that when deleted come back (reinstall) upon rebooting device. First one is SYSTEM/DATA/KNOXVPN below are screenshots.

93e5bf7e-ed7e-4b0c-860a-e018829f4a01.png

Now to permanently delete this file, go into Root Explorer script editor and remove the files that are outlined in RED in Build.prop screenshot below. Then delete the files in the screen shots above, and reboot device. As you can see in the next screenshot below it is gone, and will not reinstall on boot up !!!

As for the second one it is CILPBOARD/DATA/KNOX it is still a work in progress, but I have not given up yet !!!

CSC ( Customer Sales Code )

In the process of DEBLOATING my Samsung Note 3 after multiple recovery backups, error messages, and freezes. I needed a fresh start, went to Samsung Firmware and downloaded the latest version of 4.4.2 NC5. Once it was flashed in the device, I noticed that upon boot up the Yellow Sprint Logo that follows the Samsung logo was missing. At first I thought it was an incomplete download. ( This could be a problem ) Turns out, there are four CSC ( customer sales codes ) versions of Sprint 4.4.2 NC5 on my device.

1. SPR ( Sprint USA ) adds yellow Sprint logo, very common

2. VMU ( Sprint USA ) adds yellow Sprint logo, used rarely

3. BST ( Boost Mobile Australia )

4. XAS ( Sprint USA ) no Sprint logo, used when carrier is unknown

( If you go to system/media this is why there are so many versions boot_samsung.qmg files )

The files listed above can be found in system/csc. To find out which version you are running go to system/csc/sales_code.dat, and open with a text editor. The version of 4.4.2 NC5 I downloaded from Samsung Firmware was XAS that comes with no yellow Sprint logo. ( Problem solved )

Prl, mdn, min, meid, spc ???

What does all this mean?

What is the PRL?

The PRL (Preferred Roaming List) is essentially a list of towers for the device to use to prioritize communication. A "Sprint" PRL is required for the device to use Sprint's towers to communicate. So, you should update your PRL when you move, or are planning to be in an area for an extended period of time.

What is the MDN?

The MDN (Mobile Directory Number) is the phone number with area code associated to your account. It is required to program your device. (Example 5558675309)

What is the MIN aka MSID?

The MIN(Mobile Identification Number) is a unique number associated to your account, using the same area code of your locale. It is required to program your device. (Example 5551234567)

A mobile station ID (MSID) is a number that is associated with the home service provider and the wireless phone number. This is reprogrammed when the user changes home service providers. It can also be called the mobile identification number (MIN) and is not to be confused with the mobile device number (MDN) in the CDMA world, which is the device's telephone number.

What is the MEID/IMEI/ESN?

The MEID ( Mobile Equipment Identifier ) is what your carrier uses to identify your device. MIED is a form of ESN ( Electronic Serial Number ). IMEI stands for ( International Mobile Equipment Identity ). IMEI is another form of ESN. In Sprint's case, you need the MEID DEC to associate your device with your account. Some devices (Samsung Note 3) have it listed on the sticker under the battery, while others will have MEID HEX listed in the OS instead, and will need to be converted to DEC. Samsung Note 3 lists both on the sticker under the battery.

(DEC Example 268435456123456789) (HEX Example A000000A1B2C3D)

What is the SPC? aka MSL?

The SPC is a 6-digit code used to access the programming features of your device. All Verizon devices use 000000 as the SPC code, which makes flashing very easy usually. Sprint devices use a unique code for each device and they can be quite a task to obtain.

MDN and MIN with no MSL on Note 3

Ok, to get MDN and MIN go to DATA/USER/0/com.samsung.syncservice/shared_prefs/PHONE_DATA.xml they will be listed there.

Is there a flashable zip to get the bloatware back?

No, not that I have found. If you tell what you removed that you want back maybe I can get it for you ? Are you rooted ? Otherwise here are some options.

First if you are not rooted, do a factory reset. Yes you lose all your data, so connect your device to PC via usb cable and copy and paste all of your music and pics to folders on your desktop. Then reinstall after the factory reset. Your contacts will come back after you sign in to your gmail account.

If you have a rooted device, then you should have made backup right after you rooted the device. So you will have to do a backup restore. I keep two backups, one is copy of the full rooted stock NC5. The other is a backup of NC5 with a font mod, volume mod, and completely debloated, no KNOX set up for daily use. If I flash a new rom and it goes bad I can always restore back to normal.

Samsung Note 3 Rooting & Rom Flashing Basics

First what version of KIKAT are you on ? If you are on 4.4.4 NH7 or NK4 the latest upgrade then you can root with Chainfires CF-autoroot or his SuperSu v1.94, v2.02 or 2.40 this will trip KNOX warranty. Towel Root will not work yet for NH7 or NK4. If you are still on 4.4.2 NC5 then you can use Towel Root to root your device, this will NOT trip KNOX warranty. If you root with Chainfires CF-autoroot or his SuperSu v 1.94 or v2.40 this will trip KNOX warranty on NC5. If you want odin flash a fresh copy of 4.3 NAB, 4.4.2 NC5, or 4.4.4 NH7 here is micmars link http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2712205 or rpenrod23 [ odin ] (mirrors )http://xdaforums.com/show....php?t=2522638 for NK4 and OC5 you will need to go here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ . Make sure you have USB drivers installed on your PC here is the link http://www.mediafire.com/download/ti6xeoh2lx79zis/Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0.exe .

How to flash a fresh copy of a stock OS
    1. download the version of KitKat you want to the desktop of your PC.
    2. extract zip file to the desktop of your PC it will turn it into a .tar file
    3. you need to install Samsung drivers on your PC you can get them from here http://www.mediafire.com/download/ti..._v1.5.14.0.exe
    4. download odin to your desktop here is the link ( version 1.85 ) https://mega.co.nz/#!oA5xzTAL!LXoVWB...ZlOMSWdRGVX6Uo ( version 3.07 ) http://www.mediafire.com/download/2u.../Odin_v307.zip
    5. completely power down device, reboot into download mode (hold power button, home button, and volume down button at the same time, then push the volume up button)
    6. open odin on desktop, connect device to PC via USB cable COM: will light up in upper left corner of odin doesn't matter what color it is just shows a connection.
    7. click the PDA button a box will open click on desktop then on KitKat file to open
    8. now don't touch anything else and click start
    9. it will take several minutes, then say pass, and automatically reboot device with new OS/ROM ( this will take 3 to 4 min. after you see Samsung logo )
    10. Important !!! If the device was rooted or you are trying to downgrade from NH7 or NK4 back to NC5 the device may bootloop on the startup. ( you will know this when the Samsung logo is still on the screen after 6 to 7 min. )
    11. to fix bootloop pull battery then reinstall, boot into download mode and use odin to flash the OS/ROM again it will take the second time and boot up.

Let's root the phone, there is a couple of ways. First if you are running NC5 4.4.2 you can download Towel Root directly to the device here is the link http://towelroot.org/ The second way if you are running any version of KitKat is to use odin to flash the cf-autoroot .tar, just download cf-autoroot here is the link http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ to your PC desktop and follow the same instructions listed above just use the root file in place of the rom .tar file. Remember to choose the right root file for the version of KitKat you running so you don't trip KNOX !!!

Recoveries, the two popular ones are TWRP and Philz CWM. INSTALLING A RECOVERY WILL TRIP KNOX WARRANTY!!! You need a recovery to flash roms so you need to make choice at this point ? Here is the link to Philz CWM latest version 6.48.4.tar https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hlte/ and TWRP here http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/201 download to desktop or downloads.

I run a stock rooted 4.4.2 NC5 with Philz custom recovery version 6.12.9 hltespr https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/hltespr/ . The device was rooted and warranty tripped the second day I owned it. I was in a Sprint corporate Store a couple of wks ago. Showed the tech my rooted note 3. He said I can't touch that, I said what if I unrooted the phone. He said no problem, now I can warranty the phone. He didn't care that the KNOX flag was tripped at all 0x1. Just can't be rooted when you bring it in for service. Sprint doesn't care about KNOX only Samsung cares about KNOX. What is KNOX, KNOX is a program that creates secure encrypted containerization of DATA so it can be sent to another location. So, when Samsung paid millions to the NSA to design the KNOX security containerization system, which apparently they won't warranty will work after the device is rooted, than maybe they care. Can you say track and spy on me !!!

Ok lets install a recovery !!!
    1. you need Odin on the desktop of your PC here is the link ( version 1.85 ) https://mega.co.nz/#!oA5xzTAL!LXoVWB...ZlOMSWdRGVX6Uo ( version 3.07 ) http://www.mediafire.com/download/2uxt5u83qxhz6xr/Odin_v307.zip
    2. you need to install Samsung drivers on your PC you can get them from the here http://www.mediafire.com/download/ti6xeoh2lx79zis/Samsung_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.5.14.0.exe
    3. completely power down your device, and boot into download mode (press and hold the power button, volume down button, and the home button at the same time) a new screen will popup then push the volume up button to get into download mode.
    4. click on the Odin zip file and extract to desktop, right click and run as administrator
    5. with your device in download mode connect it to your pc via usb cable, COM: will light up in the upper left hand corner of Odin doesn't matter what color or number just shows a connection has been made.
    6. click PDA box in odin, a box will popup click where ever you have recovery file downloaded, once open it will show up in box next to PDA
    7. click start wait till you see pass and success , then your custom recovery is installed.

After the recovery is installed, download a copy of SuperSu to your desktop here is the link http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip to version v2.40 and for SuperSU 2.46 go here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1538053. Then copy and paste to sd card via USB cable. Now the next thing you are going to do is completely power down the device and boot into recovery. (press and hold the power button, volume up button, and home button at he same time) a menu will come up, click on Install Zip, then sd card to install zip and root device. Boot device and verify it is rooted, then power down, and boot into recovery. Click on backup, MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ROOTED ROM !!! Then make a backup of EFS file by its self it will show up in your backup file on the sd card or ext sd card depending on where you choose to put it. Copy and paste the efs file someplace safe.

With the Google Play Store download some type of root file manager like ES File Manager or Root Explorer (what I use). Then you can remove/freeze/delete some of the bloatware on your stock rooted rom. Check out this thread on Bloatware removal http://xdaforums.com/show....php?t=2770729

OK lets flash a rom !!!
First, you CANNOT flash a rom that is based on an older version of rom you are currently running. EX: If you are on KK 4.4.2 NC5 you can flash a rom based on NAB or NC5 but you CANNOT use a rom based on mj4 or older read the OP thread carefully . You can run AOSP roms as long as they are based on 4.4+. If you are running a KK 4.4.4 based rom, you will need to odin flash a stock lollipop 5.1.1 OS. Then root the lollipop 5.1.1 OS, install a lollipop compatible recovery. Now you can flash a lollipop based rom.

    1. install the new rom zip you want to flash on your sd card via usb cable from PC or download directly to device
    2. power down phone completely and boot into recovery
    3. from the menu find and wipe cache, delvik cache, and wipe system to install new rom, NOT FACTORY RESET !!!
    4. go back to menu and click on install zip then click on where you have the zip ( i.e. sd card ) and install this will take a minute or two
    5. back to main menu and reboot device this will take several minutes on the first boot of a new rom
    6. enjoy your new rom !!!

Lets do a restore from a backup recovery file !!!
    1. completely power down device and boot into recovery
    2. go to main menu and click on wipe system to install new rom ( no need to mess with the caches on a restore )
    3. back to the menu click on back up and restore, then click on the backup file location ( i.e. sd card )
    4. now click on restore
    5. when its completed reboot device this will install your original rooted stock rom you made a backup for

Eventually you will figure out that you can make several backups and they have really weird numbered time stamps to identify them.

If my instructions are hard to follow you can find root and recovery installation videos here http://galaxynote3root.com/ or http://qbking77.com/ both are excellent sites !!!
