Ok then, do you foresee any issue with flashing the v12 normal R1 varient, and then at a later time reflashing with the Prime varient. I mean a flash to either one will completely rewrite the partitions(my assumption) so there would be little to no chance of extra data or corrupt data remaining going from one varient to the other?? I hope that made sense.. lol

Also one other question, once the bootloader is unlocked will it survive flashes? Or would we have to unlock again? My rush to get everything done, is I don't want to get some OTA overnight and find out my hopes of a few custom roms will be ripped away because I waited that extra day
Yes that should work but use at your own risk.

Probably not. Look up what bands your carrier uses for LTE and what the phone supports.

Sent from my BLU R1 HD using XDA Labs

@Tomsgt thanks for all of these. Instructions are clear, however I just want to know by looking at your download page there are 2 files - Remove Ads and No Bloatware (recently added) -

So, the No bloatware file - Does it removes all the amazon apps and ads as well?.

Thank you,

You found that file quick I just uploaded it yesterday.
Yes the no bloatware flash removes all the bloatware leaving just the Google apps and things needed for the device to run correctly.

Thanks for all the info! I bought this to hold me over on a phone being delivered and this thread made the phone so much more liveable!

I actually cancelled my OP3 and am holding out till the new Nexus devices.

Thanks for all the hard work you put into the steps, hosting and videos!

For people not willing to download 1.3GB of data to remove a few files I updated the original ad removal post with TWRP install files http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67892852&postcount=567
It's only 3kb :)

This updated method remove the need of wiping the data and will remove all ads, even the one currently displayed on the lock screen.
Root or exposed are not required (only TWRP obviously) so it won't affect the device security.

I created 2 scripts, one to clean everything, the other one leave the Underground app store in the system, your choice.
If you use it a lot, it's nice as it will update the apps automatically without the need of allowing unknown sources.

OTA are disabled by renaming the updater. Safer than the previous method (pm disable and pm hide), and safer than deleting if we need it later.
Do you have a version of the script that allows for renaming the OTA updater back to what it was?

well the v6.4 is the amzon R1 hd files and the v12 is the normal r1 hd firmware and you can flash it to the amazon r1 hd i have tested and it works fine it may even completely remove the amazon stuff for good and be able to still get updates but i havent tested that yet
What is the "normal R1 HD" firmware like? Does it not contain any Amazon apps so it is similar to your "no bloatware" firmware?
I suppose the V12 doesn't have ads either, correct?

I'm contemplating whether I should use a firmware (V12) that probably still allows OTA updates in the future (like getting security patches or even a future Android version upgrade) or just get rid of the ads, lock the device for OTA and unlock the bootloader.
The latter means of course that future updates (if any is released, be it security or version upgrade) would have to be installed manually...

Thanks a lot for your work.

There was already a security update released OTA! July security update! Didn't think this phone would see a SINGLE UPDATE. Here's to many more to come! (hopefully)

Do you have a video on how to do this? It would be nice to get updates since there are not a lot of custom ROMs out right now.
