It seems like these device went back on sale at Amazon... I purchased one and received it yesterday. It is on Version 6.6.

What is the latest in regards to custom FW and safely removing the ads? Also, does anyone know if Android 7 will be available for this device?

Just to try and clarify things a little before advise is given.

If you have flashed "roms" then you no longer have 6.6

If "things" are messed up, you can try to explain the problems and get help or flash another whole "rom".

8.4 Blu R1, Root & Remove Adds

I'm trying to root my R1 HD and I'm getting the message too. Mine can still boot up normally. The full error message reads:
Mine got updated to Version 8.4 OTA
Please help. Really want to use some apps and remove adds.

Here is the error code:
ERROR: S_BROM_DOWNLOAD_DA_FAIL (0x7D4)
[H/W] Fail to download DA to baseband chip's internal SRAM!
[HINT]:
1. There's an cable communication problem between FlashTool and BootROM.
2. Target might be shutdown unexpectedly or target lost power supply.
[ACTION]
1. Try again.
2. Proceed H/W checking in download cable and target side com port.
3. Monitor if power-drop occured in target side.

*Could this be an SD card issue as my phones default internal memory location is the SD card and its kind of slow*

Sorry to inform you this, but because you have the newest OTA update(8.4) you can no longer use so flash tool, and as yet there is no root method that will work for you.

6.1 , should work good with my unlock tool method.

Or even sp flash tool method.

hey guys i know this threads kinda old but i just got this phone from amazon for $60 the 2gb ram 16gb storage version. Its running android 6.0, what do your recommend my next course of action be to unlock, root and remove amazon stuff from phone? Whats the best fastest rom for this device? Or Should I update to 6.1 or later? Id like the cleanest purest and fastest android experience.

No, definitely not. The use of SP Flash Tool has been disabled when you updated with the factory ROM.
