I'm using Cognition beta 4 and I have put it in my system/media/ folder and it is named bootanimation.zip. Still doesn't work for me for some reason.

Try reflashing Entrophy's newest kernel. If it still doesn't work for you, you might want to try reflashing stock, then installing Cognition again. But really at that point it's time to just get used to the stock bootscreen?

Yeah I'll try flashing the kernel (ita easy) but past that its probably not worth the effort. Thanks for your help though!

As stated previously, make sure you are running the newest version of Entropy's kernel. It provides boot animation support. After confirming you are using the most recent or flashing the most recent, place the bootanimation.zip file into the system/media folder. You can actually place it in there prior to flashing the kernel and you will get to watch it in all of its glory once you reboot after flashing the new kernel.

I was having issues with it displaying a boot animation for me until I flashed the newest kernel (10/09).

This should fix most if not all problems.

Good luck.

Confirmed this works perfectly.

If you're using Entrophy's latest kernel and/or Cognition, throw it in /system/media/ and make sure it's STILL named "bootanimation.zip" . Change the permissions if you want, but it's really not necessary. If you're running rooted stock, then it will not work as you need boot animation support at the kernel level to use them. Flash Entrophy's kernel or Cog.
Worked like a charm! Looks great too. Thanks!

My ATT SGS2 uses a QMG file for the boot on a rooted stock system. Any way to get this to work without installing another ROM?

Using a kernel that supports boot animations. Entropy's is good, and I think there's another in development that also supports it. I think they'll run on stock rooted. Don't quote me on that.

I'll take a look at Entropy's kernel then. Can't stay on stock forever. Its been a whole 30 hours since I got the phone...

Edit: Flashed Entropy's kernel, already had the Galaxy Nexus boot in the correct folder from my earlier attempt, so it showed on my first bootup after the flash. Thanks again.
