Is this CM6 only, will it work to flash on CM7 Gingerbread? (if so, should I use the CM6 version)

So the easiest way to find out is to open any File manager, go to /system (not on your SD card) and look for bootanimation.zip. If it is in system/media, you can use it

Sorry I missed that, did try it out. Works fine thanks!
One thing tho, is it possible to change the bootscreen from white to black as one guy did who posted a video. Now it's white HTC until the boot animation comes up.

I guess by one guy you mean TheGrammarFreak, who has S-OFFed phone, if you have S-OFF by alpharev as well, you can change it too, otherwise you can't.

I managed to optimize your quietly rooted boot animation to 55 kB.

Nice! I know how as well now But I'm feeling lazy to re-pack all the anims
besides, the rooted one is only 333kb, so I'm not worried anyone would not install it because of lack of space in /system
