Finished this series of colors for this boot. Going to take a little break from this series to work on a different type of animation and look more into resolution vs. fps stuff. Enjoy!

New: I added a fuchsia shutdown animation by request. Not much of a helix on this one, more messing with what kind of fancy loopage I could get out of the streaks. Sorry it took so long! Life...perpetually in the way of things.

I was able to get a 47 MB series of files down to 12 MB at 90% resolution and still it was far too slow. The thing that perplexes me is that even 65% resolution is still far too slow and in fact is not much faster than 90% or 100%, but at 50% it basically goes at the intended speed. If there is anybody knowledgeable about crushing PNGs while not sacrificing too much resolution, or maybe has better insight into how the bootanimation.zip is actually read, please let me know.

EDITS:
4/5/11: Added Helix Fuchsia Shutdown
4/1/11: Added Helix Fuchsia Boot.
3/28/11: Added Helix Red Shutdown.
3/27/11: Added Helix Green Shutdown.
3/26/11: Added Helix Red Boot.
Added Helix Green Boot.
Updated Helix Green to slightly higher res (half res)
3/23/11: Added Helix shutdown animation.

About Flashing Shutdown Animations:
Shutdown animation exists as a sequence of PNG files in /system/media/video/shutdown so this zip will simply copy the image files there. HOWEVER, since this is not simply replacing one file like the boot animation, if you currently have a shutdown animation this zip you should delete the folder using your root accessible file manager of choice (unsolicited advertisement: Root Explorer does very well with read/write permissions and is totally worth the purchase) or adb the folder out of there. If you flash over an existing PNG sequence it may be prone to weird flashing and stuttering.

DISCLAIMER: ALWAYS have a backup of your system BEFORE you flash. I am not responsible for anything bad happening to your phone should you choose to flash these files.

These zips are flashable in CWM3.0+ (edify scripts). It wipes the cache so your first boot might be a bit long.

will it work with cwm 2.5? its absolutely badass looking!

I actually don't know if edify zips work in 2.5. I feel like I've heard of some version of CWM 2.5 that could flash them, but I've never actually tried as I went to 3.0 some time ago. However, if you like you can just pull the bootanimation.zip file out of Helix Boot.zip and either adb push it or use a root explorer to copy it to your appropriate system directory. Speaking of which (hijacking my own thread here), are all the Epic kernels out there now in agreement for using /system/media for custom boot animation? I should've said I've only tried it on Bonsai 3.0.1 as I haven't made the leap to 4.0.0 yet but I assume they haven't changed that.

so search is down now but I tried looking to see how to get boot animations to work. I have cwm3 and am runner the latest syndicateROM frozen. Do I just download this, attach to sd and then "flash" it in cwm? Or do I need to delete the other boot animation that came with the rom?

I just dont want to mess anything up

Just flash it through CW 3.0. It will just replace the current boot animation that is in Syndicate. You do not need to take anything out of your current ROM.

first off.. WOW. awesome animation.

2nd- @ whoever wanted the 2.5 cwm zip.. just convert it yourself. there is a a great forum here about converting cwm 2.x.x to 3.x.x and vice-versa. i've used it myself to create custom themes. its really easy. just need 7-zip and a few mins and you're all good to go! good luck

Seems to be a lot of color requests...you should probably post a poll lol

Does seem to be the case. I'm working on the fuchsia one. Had an idea for it but it is being much harder to implement than I thought. Probably finish that up in the next couple of days. Also actually had a purple one that I started around the beginning of making these that I never went back to so could probably finish that. THEN for serious going to work more on something new that keeps getting interrupted :D

    Agreed. ^

I'm still having problems with the shutdown to work... Still freezes a little before the white flash at the end. Tried redownloading the .zip, clearing cache manually before, no go.

Did you clear out the /system/media/video/shutdown folder before flashing? Sometimes there can be weird stuttering if it starts playing frames from another shutdown animation. Otherwise I'm not sure. All the shutdown flashable zip does is fill the folder with PNGs. Unlike the bootanimation there is no file that sets resolution or play speed so it just runs at whatever default speed shutdown animations are supposed to run at.
