I believe so, yes. you just have to replace the previous bootanimation.zip, where you'll find and replace the old bootanimation.zip depends on which ROM you are using though. I've found them in these 3 locations so far

/data/local/
/system/media/
/system/customize/resource/

To find out which is right for your ROM you could:

• download rootexplorer you'll be able to browse your system files and find the old file
• Let me know which ROM your on I may be able to find out for you.

for stock rom, moving it into data/local using terminal emulator works just fine
