Do we know for sure this particular model (US Variant) is locked? A lot of hype built around the fact they went that route the first time...
Yes, we do. Lots of people in the TWRP thread wondering why they can't unlock their phones too.

Basically you bought the wrong S8 if you care about easy dev stuff. Unlocking bootloader, rooting, ROMs, kernels, etc.

Now Verizon and Sprint users don't have a choice. Qualcomm has patents on CDMA modem technology and the Exynos variants don't have CDMA. BUT other carriers like AT&T or T-Mobile, Exynos would be better.

Or for Canadian users too. They got Exynos variant with bootloader unlock last year but this year got Snapdragon.

EXYNOS VARIANTS LTE BANDS:
LTE Bands: FDD: B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B13(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B25(1900), B26(800), B28(700), B32(1500), B66(AWS- 3) | TDD: B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500)

GSM/GPRS
850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz

3G/HSPA
850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz

You order off ebay, BUT make sure you choose a dealer who will disable the regional lock like Clove in UK does. Google Clove UK.

This time around SN 835 seems equal if not better than the exynos in terms of battery and speed. To bad we dont get root or.unlock bootloader
