Hi guys. Can someone help me out with this bit:
if you are not using a custom rom you will need to relocate your bootimage (read: kernel) to /system/boot.img manually.

Thanks.

How do I get back to stock? I got CM11 running, but there will be a point where I want the ouya stock rom back.

Update Never mind, I installed stock rom in cwm and when it warned about replacing recovery I picked "no" now I'm on bare stock OUYA.

I'm trying to know the exact way to revert everything to stock before trying this things, but I couldn't get an answer using this foruns too...

Anyway, thank you devs, but I'm staying away for safety. I wouldn't like to be stuck with no way back.

Alright, so I've installed the latest Recovery (6.0.3.2) and it works like a charm, but I can't install Bootmenu. When I try, it gives me:

This package is for "ouya" devices; this is a "ouya_1_1."
E:Error in /sdcard/ouyabootmenu-mlq-v2.0.4.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted

I found that people had this issue in the KitKat Nightly thread, but it turns out recovery wasn't flashed properly. I've reflashed it and it really does seem fine. Every time I do a "reboot recovery" it shows up fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: Fixed. I didn't see recovery 6.0.4.8 in the forum, found it in the kitkat nightlies post.

Ouiya stock firmware doesnt boot

Hi all,

yesterday I decided to step forward and give a try to CyanogenMod in Ouya and I installed CWM 6.0.3.2 via Exposed. After that booting recovery i flashed the newest version recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.8-ouya.zip that supported Ouya bootmenu.
I did install the ouyaboot using the CWM 6.0.4.8. and reboot.
now I get the outabootmenu but it doesnt boot the normal stock ROM. I didnt download cyanogenmod so now I am blocked with OUYA doing a boot loop. When I select normal boot , it goes directly to ouya failsafe. the only two options given doesnt let me do much.
I download the CM11.0 for ouya but I dont know how to connect the HD to be recognize by CWM.

i runned out of ideas... any suggestion?

many thanks in advance.
Jose

Ouya Bootmenu development/release thread

This is based on the awesome work by Hal9k.
Because of the fact that the Ouya doesn't have recovery accessibility via hardware buttons we need to play safe and utilise chainbooting.
This bootmenu resides in the kernel partition and is loaded on every normal bootup.
In-depth info in Hal9k's thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499673.

It presents various choices on every boot:
  • Normal boot - (default) loads bootimage from system partition (/system/boot.img)
  • Alternate boot - loads bootimage from sdcard (/sdcard/altboot.img)
  • Recovery - reboots into recovery (recovery partition)
  • Failsafe - loads built-in failsafe mode
  • Bootloader - Reboots into stock bootloader (for fastboot access - USE WITH CARE)

Notes about the failsafe
the failsafe mode (which has the bootmenu built-in) will pop up in the following cases:
  • the bootmenu could not find a valid bootimage (read: /system/boot.img for "normal boot"; /sdcard/altboot.img for "alternate boot")
  • the user selects "failsafe" from the menu

the failsafe mode resides in the bootmenu image itself and should ONLY be used (as its name suggests) as failsafe.
for regular flashing you need to use a newer cwm version which resides in the recovery partition and is accessible via the "recovery" entry in the bootmenu (see below).

And remember: After flashing this you DON'T NEED TO EVER touch your boot/LNX partition again

Reminder: Failsafe mode is ONLY to be used in case you can't boot into your recovery partition. For regular rom flashing the respective CWM recovery (see below) is required.

And as always: we take no responsibility whatsoever for raging, screaming, crying, frustration, failing, confusion, dead kittens, etc.

I have the stock rom on my ouya,I just installed CWM and from it , I installed the ouya bootmenu. So the normal boot should work no? maybe it is due to the ouya firmware version i had... I had the latest.

I connected my laptop to the ouya via USB cable but ubuntu doesnt recognize the ouya at all... should I do it from windows? where can I find the drivers for ouya?

thanks!
J

Do you have stock rom on your OUYA?
If not, always have a rom on a device...
You can try to push the zip via adb...

When I ask if you have stock rom on the ouya, I want to say stock rom zip (firmware)

Nop, Ouya bootmenu need CM because it's don't install in the same place (not sure, but read the first post)

That what you need to do

2. Make sure ouya is connected via usb to your computer.
3. You choose the apply update from adb option in recovery mode.
4. Write in your terminal/command prompt adb shell, you do not need su.
5. Then type in adb sideload RC-OUYA-1.0.346-r1_ota.zip. In my case I was using version 1.0.346 for recovery. You can find the recovery files here: http://bit.ly/OUYAFirmware
6. Once it is done sideloading it will reboot if I remember correctly.
7. You should have recovered your ouya.

I don't know if it's work on Ubuntu, but I always do that on Windows without problem...

I think do that totally wipe the ouya...
Sorry for my bad english

most probably because /system/boot.img is not found. you need to install cyanogenmod afterwards or relocate your bootimage if still on stock.
You can try adb push /boot.img /system/boot.img

But no promise it's work

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I didnt manage to do the installation using the adb but I found a trick quite nice.
I have a keyboard with two extra usb port. I copied the CM11 rom to a usb stick and plug it on the keyboard, then I plugged the keyboard to the ouya and boot in recovery. the CWM saw the usb, mounted and I could install cm11 inmediately.

Now I have a little problem, it looks amazing but I cannot type anything, the ouya controller let me move in the system but when I click on some text field , the virtual keyboard doesnt appear.... is this normal?
shoudl I install something more....

I install the rom, the gapps and the ouyacontrollermapping.

thanks once more.

Do you still have your keyboard plugged in? Virtual keyboard won't pop up in that case.
