Same here. Is yours by any chance also a Canadian unit? Perhaps they're being inexplicably locked here. (Mine is from Wind/Freedom, and the service menu lists the bootloader as not allowed to be unlocked)
Well that sux. I just bought the same one (Canadian version from Freedom Mobile) and was looking forward to unlocking and rooting this bad boy! (g3223) I hope this gets sorted soon!

Unfortunately, if my understanding of Sony devices is correct, if the bootloader says it can't be unlocked, there is no known way around that. It is however possible to root without unlocking, there just hasn't been a workaround for this specific device yet.

Yeah I just got around to trying to unlock my Canadian g3223 and gave my the same response.. Tried with and without the Oem unlock option in developers settings, no difference. Gonna try to contact Sony and see what they say the reason why the Canadian ones are locked but none of the others. Sux cause I'm really liking this phone cept for a few things, and that could all be fixed with root

Yeah that sucks! I thought the Canadian variant would be unlock able as well (since Sony lets you unlock it via their site).

Canadian carriers suck. Everything here's locked.

Moto G I had was bootloader locked I had to run I think adb commands to get a code that I submitted to motora. The in turn would give bootloader unlock code... Something like that anyway

Come December ALL CANADIAN CARRIERS are required to give unlock codes from what I hear

Hello,
Just got mine today..
Found online the secret code witch brings up the usual MENU to see things of the phone
Could someone explain me two things..
First wich I find almost answered by it self it is undet that MENU saying that my bootloader is not able to
be unlock.. its saying something like bootloader unlock allowed: NO
So that would be bad if it can really not be unlock
From my experiance it was usually that way.. if it is a NO than you got a NO bootloader unlock device

But I also looked at sim lock.. just to see couse the guy wich sold me the phone got it from one of
the provider in my country... and if you choose to see the menu of sim status..
Just the first number in the row says 5
But all others are 0
So there are 5 or 6 things in that menu.. and just the first number is 5 all others are 0
So I dont get it is it or is it not locked or how to tell that one
Could someone please help and explain

Thanks

EDIT:
check the SIM lock status in Service Menu - from the Phone dialer app type *#*#7378423#*#* Service info ► Sim lock

o Network 5
x Network subset 0
x Service provider 0
x Corporate 0
x SIM 0

o Network 5 - the phone is Network locked and you have 5 attempts to enter the unlock code.
If there is a 0 beside the category where a lock exists,
then it means that your phone is hard locked and you can't unlock it by code.

Well, as it looks like my phone has bootloader locked with no chance to unlock it
But my sim lock is not hard locked couse I can unlock it with the code after
the contract from provider is over..

Can anybody explain me now what is the problem for me if I flash something with
bootloader locked??
I mean what is the difference.
IF I want to flash the same custom rom ( when we have them )
What is the difference between locked and unlocked??
Can I more likely brick my phone or what... sorry for the noob question

Thanks

If bootloader is NOT allowed it will NOT UNLOCK

Hii

I just want to say to all users if they have a phone wich
in the hidden menu says bootloader unlock:NO

It will not be able to unlock it
I have mine got today
It is as I have found out sim lock but not hard locked so
that means I can unlock my sim with the code
But my bootloader unlock is in the hidden menu saying NO

Still
I have tried... I went to the sony official site
Give my IMEI number
Then got the email to confirm
Got the unlock command
But to use the command you need to prepare everything
Just like it is written from android studio, google usb drivers and replacing them
Then if windows does not allow you to install your usb driver
You need to go to recovery options ( thats for windows 10 users )
And reboot under number 7 so that you can install usb driver without the signature verification

After you did all of that you got all done..
Just start under sdk/platform tools the CMD and copy paste the
Unlock code given from sony
NOTE: IT WILL NOT UNLOCK, EVAN WITH THAT CODE GIVEN FROM SONY
IF IT IS IN HIDDEN MENU SAYING BOOTLOADER UNLOCK : NO
It will only give you the answer NOT ALLOWED..
Thats it
Just wanted to share with you guys who what to do the same becouse of
reading this and that from people writing you can or you can not...well now you know

I have found some cheap SIM UNLOCK service.
Actually it is the service from my provider
They send the phones to them when your contract ends and you want to unlock it

When I asked my provider they do not want to unlock it, said NO
But then I found out who is unlocking them
I asked the service and they said like
Oh, ok.. it cost you like 15 dollar and you will lose your warranty
I said it ok I know that.

But when I asked could you also unlocked the bootloader they said
That such an operation for them as Sony Service is not allowed to do by Sony

They said you need some other unofficial way to do it..

And I am thinking...ok..there is no rom support for our phone
My bootloader is saying unlocking NO in the hidden menu

But it just do not want to get out of my mind..
Can it be the SIM LOCK and carrier lock to prevent it to be an bootloader unlock YES
So, maybe next week...in 2-3 day I will maybe Unlock it and loose like 22 month warranty

And will report back if it changed anything :)
Wish me luck... I want to know ..

If your Xperia is carrier branded then it can't have the bootloader unlocked, it doesn't matter the country or carrier, it's always been that way and no one have found a way to break that rule. If you love messing with the phone and sony then you have to get one from a sony store, and remember to always back up the drm keys

Mine is with Freedom Mobile Canada it's not branded by any company (when booting it shows only the Sony Xperia logo not any carrier..
I submitted my IMEI to Sony they sent me the bootloader unlock code.. have to use their program for unlocking it

Is that a proper carrier or just a service that runs on the network of a major carrier?
