Bought AT&T Note 8 and apparently it has a bad IMEI, what can I do?

Hello, I just purchased this phone from somebody with a bad IMEI, spent a good amount of money on it too...

I called AT&T, they told me the insurance company blocked it. Is there anything I can do with this? It works fine on Wi-Fi, just not mobile data...

Any help greatly appreciated. I just don't know what to do here

For bad imei you mean it has been blocked? If that is the case, you bought a stolen or unpaid device, nobody here in XDA will help you, sorry for you, in the future be more careful

Root? To what end? There is no legal way to unlock a red flagged IMEI

So? Ill still use it in the mean time as wi-fi only...

I would contact the person who sold it to you and get a refund. Or threaten to take legal action if they don't give you a full refund.

Sorry for the misfortune but if imei is blacklisted you bought trouble, best case scenario is that you don't get done for handling stolen goods.

Changing IMEI is illegal in most countries.
