I have the H915 I just have LGUP not reading anymore for some reason....
If you can find a way to get into bootloader you can try and flash twrp with the dirty santa method. Then try to transfer a rom for your model on to ext sd and flash that. Make sure you wipe before flashing the rom. It should work. Let me know if you have any success. I know it can be frustrating.

Also did you already unlock the bootloader? If not, you may not have a way of getting recovery. If so what method did you use?

So I usually don't have to post for help as I've been doing this for a while and don't usually get this stuck.

Situation:

Rooted V20 918H (T-Mo variant) with TWRP installed and working fine on v10d.
Phone got a little hot this afternoon so I rebooted figuring a process had run away or something (you know android).
Phone reboots and comes up to the Firmware Update screen. Mind you this isn't the same screen that folks often confuse as bootloader. There's no ADB/fastboot access only serial over USB.
Load up LGUP with Uppercut and grab the v10i KDZ. That runs flawlessly, finishes the upgrade and reboots.

This is where things go pants up.

When it reboots, I still get the triangle warning screen saying that the bootloader is unlocked and then it goes right back to the firmware update screen.

Things I've tried:

I've attempted to get into TWRP/recovery (Volume Down). I know I did the buttons right because it does that whole asking me if I'm sure I want to wipe my device, blah blah blah... but then after answer Yes twice... back to firmware update.
I've attempted to get into bootloader (Volume Up). Nothing... Right back to firmware update screen.

Things I haven't done:

I haven't been playing with ROMs or kernels.
I haven't been flashing random zips
I haven't been editing system files at all.
I haven't been washing, chewing, attempting to flush down the toilet or otherwise abusing my device.

Really I haven't been tinkering. I only wanted root for a couple of things (Ad Away primarily). So I'm certain I've done nothing negligent to cause this.

So I'm at a loss. LGUP completes successfully but doesn't fix anything. Halp?

I ended up RMA'ing the device. No idea what went wrong. Sorry about your situation. :(

My phone does the same thing after a battery pull or shutting it down completely and starting again. It says firmware update, now waiting for any connection. Funny thing is I didn't root or mod this phone in anyway.

I wanted to post this cause maybe it'll help someone get their phone up.

When it locks up with the firmware update screen I pull the battery, put it back in. Then I plug the phone into the charger, wait for the charging icon to come up with the percentage. Then press and hold the power button only like normal and then it starts up.

By the way I have the U.S. cellular version. Kinda makes swapping the battery useless if I have to run for a charger every time I pull the battery. I'm guessing I'm gonna have to contact lg on this one.

Hello, i´m from Argentina and i have an LG V20 h990ds model.
I'm having the same problem, could someone explain me step by step what should I do? I don t understand practically anything. I just want save my cell phone. I already tried to use the LG UP with the uppercut. Could it be that I have already finished with all my possibilities?
I send you a great greeting from Argentina and I hope you can help me.

My v20 has been doing the dreaded firmware update loop for like a month i have tried everything to get past it. The only thing that helps is to completely drain the battery and wait till the charge battery symbol appears. But the battery has to be completely drained for this to work

I have a stock T-Mobile version, and this happened to me recently when doing a battery swap. What seems to work for me is press power and volume up and hold volume up like a second after LG logo and it boots normally. The two instances I tried this while this was happening after a battery swap it was successful.

Phone bricked after battery died

Hi guys.

While I was attempting to install a ROM, I pressed on Format Data and everything when bollocks. As stated in the title, Whenever I try to boot it up, it just stays on the "Firmware Update. Now waiting for any connection..." screen. I tried everything I thought of, but nothing helped at all. Of course, I know of troubleshooting next to nothing, so I hoped someone could help me out with this?

The last thing I tried was flashing the H-918 .tot with LGUP, but that didn't get me anywhere.

My LG 910 is doing this s well, but I have never attempted rooting my phone or modifying the software in any way. Mine started doing this when my phone would die following the latest update. Every time, it got harder and harder to get out of, but it always managed to go boot normally eventually. Then, 3 days ago, my phone died while I was Updating my Facebook, and I have not been able to use it since then. I have found another list of options by the pressing multiple times the power button while it is on this screen, but it will only go into it if it’s not plugged in. If you press power or one of the volume buttons multiple times, it goes to a screen that the says SELECT MENU and the options here are “ma-usb (WiFi) dL
power off
Phone info
And back “
The first option scans for WiFi and brings up a list of WiFi networks but my phone won’t connect to any 0f them even if plugged into it.The power off is self explanatory. Phone info does nothing. however, I did notice that if you are trying to select the option by long pressing power key on the third time, it flashes “adb enabled.!” across the bottom in yellow.... I haven’t seen it make any changes to the phone except that when I select the back option after that, the number next to the 910k and B in the upper left hand corner of the white framed rectangle is different. on my h910 there is a;ways a 910K a space and then a B50 in the upper left hand of the box at the very bottom of my firmware update screen. That number following the B changes depending on key presses and options selected after I hit the back option. But if I take the battery out and replace it, it will revert back the To saying 910K B50 again... I have tried everything to get it back to normal.. has anyone here been successful with fixing this issue? I’m desperate. Also, my memory card is still in the phone and I did have developer options installed on my memory card along with an Sd card along with other apps. I just don’t know how to gain access into my phone the way it is now. Also, I did try factory resetting but after I selected yes to the final question and the phone shut off, it just rebooted back into the firmware update screen again. I have my media backed up so at this point, I just need my phone to work. I don’t care if I have to lose all of my data., I just need to be guided through to a solution that gets my phone up and running again.. Thanks in advance for any advice that anyone has to offer..

@agrace21757 Can you you get into download mode: while the phone is off, hold vol up and plug in the USB cable.

If you can, you can use the H910 root method to fix your phone. You don't have to stay rooted, you can then use the back to stock procedure to put your phone back to the stock firmware.

Do you remember the exact number of times that you pressed power to get to that menu? That is the boot select menu, where you can choose what you want to boot from.

You have verified that booting from SD card isn't possible anymore since that option isn't in that list. However, and I really wondered up till now why there was a tftp client in the bootloader -- and now I know. It should be possible to boot from a tftp server if we know what files to send to the phone.

I need to get to that menu so I can sniff the network and see what file it is requesting when you choose ma-usb (wifi).

@runningnak3d
It goes into that screen every time I push the power button 5-6 times fast. But it will not do it if I have it plugged in to my computer. I actually got my phone up and running by trying the suggestion here of holding vol up and power releasing them for one second and then pressing them again. Unfortunately, lg decided to push an update to my phone and when it booted back up, back to the update screen. I think the only thing I did differently to get it to work when it hadn’t other times is that I was very careful in the way and timing of the button presses. I’m thinking that this phone is one where that perfect timing is a must.. so I’m gonna try being calm while I try this all over again.. lol This is my luck. I will also try root method to get it back up if I run into any issues. Thank you for your help. Update me on what you find out with that mode.. Thanks again and have a great day!

Hi, my phone is H990DS and is stuck in Firmware Update screen with error 910K B50.
I tried to flash the H990ds10c_00_OPEN_SG_DS_OP_1214.kdz firmware creating proper LG.dll file but my phone doesn't restart and it is stuck on Firmware Update screen.
How can I fix my phone?
Do you know what is my problem?

I have the same issue.

Phone battery died yesterday. Charged it up and it immediatley goes to this "Firmware Update" screen. I can Hold down Power and the Volume Down. Tried to even factory reset but every single time the phone reboots to go into the reset process it goes straight back to this screen.

I never tried to install any root, any custom roms at all. Just stock all the way.

Would this be considered planned obsolescence?

Fixed LG V20 firmware locked screen

This fix is for LG V20 H990N (Dual Sim) , but I think it will work for all variants of V20 and maybe other LG similar variants.
I finally fixed by accident this issue after playing around with the phone. I love this phone and so far the best phone i have ever used. So i had to get it fixed.

Below are the steps to get your phone working again and booting normally.
Connect your phone charger USB OR connect with computer (USB), any will do.

1. In the stuck up screen ( Firmware update/H910 B50 / waiting for connection), press the "Power" OR "Volume Down" button 6 times or 7 times, this will open a menu with some options.

2. Select the "power off" option, the menu will ask for confirmation so press "Yes". This will switch off the phone and will restart again if your charger or usb computer is connected. At this point , "Don't press any buttons" and let the phone restart normally.

3. If it still boots to the firmware upgrade screen, then try steps 1 to 2 again. In my case i had to do it 3 times after removing the battery. And in case you need to replace your battery you can do that and then repeat steps 1 to 2 until the phone restarts properly.

5. I have tested this method more than 20 times and it seems to be the fix everyone is waiting for.

Doesn't seem to boot properly, do you have any ideas what could work?
