I found a fix.

You have to connect your phone to a computer using LG Bridge. Then under Software Update, there is a blue hyperlink in the bottom right corner that says "update error recovery" click on that link and proceed through the update prompts and your phone will start downloading and updating the firmware update. Your stuck firmware update screen will start moving from 0% to 100% at this time. Your phone should re-start in complete working order.

Fixed - when nothing else worked!

My H910 on stock rom started booting only to the "Waiting for connection" firmware update screen.

I tried:
- Holding vol-up + power, releasing power briefly at LG logo, to get into download mode - no change (I actually believe that the screen I'm stuck at is in fact that "download mode" screen)
- Holding vol-down + power, releasing both briefly at LG logo, to get into factory reset - restting made no difference tho
- Mashing power 5 times fast on the "waiting for connection" screen to get into that special menu - nothing I did there had any effect
- LG Bridge - wouldn't connect. Very annoyingly, prompted me every single time to agree to privacy policy, grrr...
- Flashed several KDZs with LGUP - no effect

Here's what worked:
- Pulled battery and power cable
- Dipped the phone end of an unplugged cable in vodka and stuck it in the USB socket several times. Yes, really.
- Blew the excess vodka out of the socket
- Bam, booted into setup for the latest firmware I'd flashed (Puerto Rico H915 FWIW)

This did not look to me like a hardware issue, but it was. FWIW I had been somewhere very dusty recently. I think that was the cause.

I'm still early in testing this (as in I have only power cycled a few times since trying this approach) but I can confirm it indeed did the trick for me too.... what a whack solution. For the record I used 70% rubbing alcohol and canned air to dry it after

Oh my god in heaven.... holy toledo!! That WORKED!! I have tried everything you listed as well, over and over. Cleaning the charging port with alcohol didnt work immediately, so I was bummed... BUT for the first time, the phone showed the battery level as 100% (I had even ordered a new battery thinking that my old battery didn't have enough charge for the firmware update... when that didn't work I ordered a battery charger thinking maybe the new battery didn't have sufficient charge and I thought perhaps the charger was broken on the phone... which seems to be fairly common. So I got the battery charger yesterday, made sure the new battery was charged... put it in... and NADA!! just immediately reverted to the Firmware Update screen waiting to connect. The weird thing was, when I attached the USB cable from my iMac to the V20, it would switch to something like "do not unplug USB until download is complete".... and then it would only show 0% :( )

So when finally I got a battery icon showing 100% by cleaning out the USB charging port, after nothing for 2 weeks... I thought it was fixed. But it then went again to the Updating Firmware screen. aaargh lol So I removed the battery, re-inserted... used the USB cable I had just cleaned with alcohol.... et voila!!! My phone came to life!!! Unbelievable... I doubt I would ever have thought to use alcohol on the charging port (altho I had blown it out with canned air at the very beginning). So grateful, thank you!!

See my reply above.... your solution WORKED!!! I am so grateful because I had tried everything I could find to try (LG Bridge wouldn't work with my iMac since it doesn't have MTP file transfer (and I downloaded Android File Transfer and that wouldn't work either), so borrowing someone's PC was going to be my last thing to do).... then just happened to come upon this solution.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT!!
