Add Shortcuts To Threads - Give The End User The Option

Just a quick note, might be worth editing the first post for clarity, as some users might not be familiar with the concept of %labelGOEShere%

You may also find that %SystemRoot%\system32 is listed in your path. As %SystemRoot% is wherever windows is installed to (c:\windows\ for example), this too is fine, no need to manually specify c:\windows\system32 as well!

Oh also, for the sake of completion/keyboard shortcut lovers, system properties is also accessible by holding down the Windows Flag on your keyboard and tapping the Pause/Break key once.
ilentlyScreaming,

We began to add Keyboard shortcuts to our Threads today. Thank you again for sparking the idea.

I was following your other guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069117) to root my Kindle Fire 2 and the note regarding the bug report on Windows 7 brought me here.

My "path" looks like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared

and when I perform the ping 4.2.2.2 command I don't get any "not recognized" messages. Do I still have to apply the mentioned patch?

As the ping command works, and you have %SystemRoot%\system32 in your path, you should be OK, I believe. prokennexusa is away from his keyboard for a while.

Thanks for your reply mate! I thought so but I wanted to be sure as I just got my Kindle a couple of days ago and don't
want to mess it up! :)

I'd definitely order a factory cable in advance. Mine ended up 6000km away, and waiting for it to get back to me was a killer when I bricked my Kindle Fire 2!
One of the HD models can't be rescued with a factory cable from a certain of type bricking (maybe the 8"?), I think it is a dead kindle bricking, rather than a bootloop. Another advantage with a factory usb cable is the ability to install other bootloaders. You can do the tweezermod via an APK, (I did in the end), but the cable opens up your opportunities.

Please do always make sure that any procedures you're carrying out are definitely compatible with your exact model of Kindle Fire.

Confused on Last Step.....

Prokennexusa, thank you for your all of your help and knowledge. My poor Kindle got caught up in this new update and now I have lost my root :(

I followed all of your instructions perfectly and everything came out correct with the "ping" command, but now I'm confused.

You last step says "Run ROOT MANY ANDROID!", but I'm confused as to where I would run it?

You said in your instructions that if we perform the fix, we won't have to re-root the Kindle, so do I run the "ROOT MANY ANDROID!" on my Kindle or on my computer?

Is the "ROOT MANY ANDROID!" a software that I need to download on my Kindle or computer?

How do I see if my Kindle has regained root access?

Update

To All-

I am back after a long bout of health issues. I have changed everything, my diet to my lifestyle.

I am really sorry for the people caught in the cross fire of my health, I will make it up to you over time.

I will begin to reply, slowly! Be patient. Those who have devices in my possession will be repaired in the next month, sorry for the delay but I was unable to do anything over the last months.

Best Regards,

Chris Bryant

Timed out

To All Windows 7 and Vista Users:

We have found a serious bug in Windows 7 and Vista that can effect system function and
performance. The Bug appeared when running Root MANY ANDROID! and Qemu but can
cause a number of programs to fail. Please perform these steps to fix the problem. If you
are currently Rooted, do not worry about Re-Rooting, just perform the fix.

Here is the Fix:

1. Go into System, here is how. If you have My Computer or Computer, Right Hand mouse
click choose Properties. If you can not find it here, click on Start Menu, do you see
Computer, Right Hand mouse click choose Properties. If not here, choose Control Panel,
select Small Icons at the top Right. Then select (click) on the System Icon.

2. Once you are in the System Properties, choose "Advanced System Settings"

3. Next Select "Environment Variables"

4. Under "System Variables" find "Path"

5. With the Mouse, select "Path" Choose Edit

6. Be Careful. Scroll to the end of the Path Statement and add: C:\Windows\System32 so the path statement looks like (example only, yours will be different):

C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Users\Gerry Bryant\AppData\Local\Smartbar\Application\;C:\Users\Gerry Bryant\AppData\Local\Smartbar\Application\;c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\;c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\Binn\;c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\;C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\WINDOWS\system32

Note: No Space between the ; and the statement C:\WINDOWS\system32 - the statement
is not case sensitive, can be upper case or lower case or a mix of the two.

7. Click on OK, OK and OK until the System Properties is closed.

8. Let's test to see if the Path statement was set properly. Open a Command Window
by clicking on Start > Run > cmd OK or however you know how to open a Command
Window.

9. Once a Command Window is open type:

Code:
ping 4.2.2.2
You should see replies, your output ms= time will vary, just make sure you see a response
and nothing like "not recognized as an internal or external command in Windows". The
output will appear something like:

Code:
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.2.8250]
(c) 2012 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\System32>ping 4.2.2.2

Pinging 4.2.2.2 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 4.2.2.2: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=51
Reply from 4.2.2.2: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=51
Reply from 4.2.2.2: bytes=32 time=21ms TTL=51
Reply from 4.2.2.2: bytes=32 time=23ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 4.2.2.2:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 23ms, Average = 21ms

C:\Windows\System32>
That is it! Run Root MANY ANDROID!
