This version is meant to have call recording enabled in the UK. Is there something you need to do to enable it as I can't see the recording option. I'm in the UK, unbranded. Looks like the CSC is XEU.

Phone is just a couple days old, pretty much factory reset anyway, shouldn't need to reset after each OTA unless it's a major OS update, and tbh I really don't fancy having to set it back up again

It's fine really, I`'ve installed a package disabler and done my usual app disables I did with my S7, seems to have helped normal use a bit

I`ll hang off until the next decent sized, non-security update and see how things are with that, right now I'm on 34% battery with 4h 57m SoT so can't complain really other than camera drain

What apps did you disabled using package diabler?

I enabled "com.skms.android.agent" again because it made my text messages take a long time to send with it disabled

I'm on O2U in the UK and don't see any call recording ability

BTU is usually the CSC to have more features enabled iirc, back on the S7 with Oreo BTU had WiFi calling when XEU did not, problem is BTU and XEU are both multi-CSC so it is difficult to switch from one to the other as they both contain each CSC and won't change directly, supposedly switching to a single CSC not contained in either multi first, then flashing BTU works but I haven't done it

O2U seems to be single CSC according to Samsung Phone INFO app on my phone though

I've spent the last 2 days, searches for COMBINATION ROMs, around 50 flashes and resets and still cannot change the CSC from XEU to BTU.

I've given up in vain - does anyone have any ideas?

Combination ROMs?

Did you flash a single CSC first to remove XEU before flashing BTU and check it had changed?

Removing the SIM is also recommended apparently too

I've switched between XEU and BTU before on my S7, but that was during the Beta of Nougat, and there's a good chance the beta BTU ROM was single CSC, possible you can't do it now, Samsung Phone INFO app allows CSC changing but requires root

Yes I did try that. I flashed a VOD ROM which then changed the CSC to VOD... Then I flashed the OXM ROM, it goes back to XEU. There is no option to switch it to BTU and there is no ROM with a single BTU CSC.

I've read people saying that factory resetting from recovery after flashing BTU has applied BTU CSC when before that it was back on whatever their phone's default was

If it doesn't work with that method along with having no SIM in the device when flashing then I have no idea unfortunately

There's nothing stopping you flashing BTU firmware and having that firmware running on the device, but you would need to flash manually every update using ODIN as OTA likely won't work with BTU firmware and XEU CSC

I wouldn't mind doing that if BTU firmware actually existed. I have flashed what SamMobile calls BTU firmware, but it has OXM multi-CSC so just installs as XEU

The system part of the firmware (AP) itself is BTU, I did it with Oreo for the S7 as only Nougat existed for XEU at the time

It's literally only the CSC that won't change

For example if BTU is updated to June security update before XEU, that update is included in the AP part of the firmware and you will see June 2018 as the security update date when you flash it even if it still has XEU CSC

I understand. However, both the XEU and the BTU firmwares have the same AP number which is G960FXXU1BRE5, so I'm not sure how they can be different. In fact, regardless of which I download from SamMobile, all 4 of the files are the same.

So, I'm new on S9 bought mine yesterday.
Actually I'm trying to figure out what's the lastest build number for OTA updates.

In software info I found this build number: G9600ZHU2ARE6, but can't find anything related to U2ARE6 on xda.

They're both on the same update atm, honestly the only reason to switch between BTU & XEU is how soon one gets updated vs the other, BTU seems to always be first, in which case the build numbers will differ for a few weeks

But as you cannot switch to BTU CSC, if you want the update sooner, you'll have to flash BTU manually, but tbh I wouldn't bother, I only did it with my S7 because BTU got Oreo quite a while before XEU, and not even sure if XEU got it yet, sold my S7 a few days ago, not really worth it for a security update IMO

The main reason I want BTU is for native call recording.

That's the CSC not the main system firmware, CSC controls regional features such as that, VoLTE, Wifi calling etc

XEU is UK & Ireland, possible it's restricted in Ireland, BTU is UK only
Exactly. Is there any way to extract just the BTU CSC from the OXM CSC?

There must be as Samsung did it for the Nougat beta with the S7, but I have no idea how to, possible they just released it as a single CSC in the first place, no idea how they create them

Think it was only the S8 that got the Oreo beta though, no other UK CSCs that have native call recording?

Even if you managed to extract the CSC and rebuild it as BTU, it would likely no longer be seen as stock in ODIN and either not flash, or would trip KNOX, in which case you might as well root and use a CSC changer

This CSC thing makes me regret I bought again a Samsung phone. Waiting for the providers to release the update it's a huge pain in the ass. I'm on last XEF build (France unbranded) while the last update from my provider it's from April.

Unbranded firmware doesn't get updates via carrier, they're direct from Samsung, some sooner than others
