He means editing his build.prop values to trick Google into thinking that he has a Nexus, so that he may get OTA updates.

I'm not sure if it would work.
But if it does and you do get updates for Nexus device (and not ur phone), and flashing that update BRICKS ur device, what will u do?

No this will not work.
The OTA are getting on the device on the registered ID.
If this would be possible then every people will do editing in the build.prop

You can't but you can disguise your device as a Nexus through editing build prop. If you wanna a Nexus navigation bar, just read this thread and add a line to your build prop.. Works on any device..
