Buy FireTV 2015 (on sale now) or buy FireTV 2014 (expensive!)?

Wondering if it's worth it to buy a new 2015 model which is now on sale, or get one from Ebay for $110-$135 that is proven to work properly?

That $110-135 is a premium im guessing to have kodi installed? I have gen 1 rooted (hard to find one with rootable firmware). Perfectly happy and for me theres not much need to upgrade. But if i had to start over i think id definitely buy gen 2. If you can get one tomorrow i think theyre $80. It is rootable but from what i see not as simple as a few clicks. Better specs on gen 2 but if youre just interested in kodi, dont care much for gaming and dont have a 4k tv... you know what Id still go with gen 2. Especially if the alternative means paying significantly more for gen 1.

Nope. They're just the only ones available on Ebay since you can't buy a Gen 1 anywhere else. The one for $110 is for a brand new sealed Gen 1 (no idea of firmware version). The one for $135 is a brand new in box with a firmware version that can be rooted.

There isn't really any more Gen 1's for sale on Ebay cheaper than that.

The problems with the Gen 2's are well-known. If I were to buy a Gen 2, it would be sitting collecting dust until the problems were resolved. Not to mention having to buy a Bluetooth remote to replace the WiFi remote as an added cost to the Gen 2 purchase.

Id still go with gen 2 personally (aware of bugs but given the fact amazon's pushed back os 5 on gen 1 makes me think they are focusing efforts on correcting them.) Think youd be happy with gen 1 (I am) but when you figure a difference of maybe $55 and those issues might be sorted out by xmas... hopefully someone with a gen 2 chimes in. Ideally someone who owns both.

I have both firetvs and both are rooted. I have 3 firetv (2014) 3 firetv sticks(2014) 1 firetv (2015) and no cable :D. I've been using 1st Gen since last year with no real issues. I have kodi running, other side loaded apps and Xposed running without any real issues. The 2nd Gen I've had for about a month and it has kodi and side loaded apps running without any real issues. I haven't been able to get Xposed running due to no custom recovery yet but all in all the 2nd Gen runs as good if not better than the 1st Gen.

Rooting the 2nd Gen could give you some headaches but it works.

I would get the new firetv.

Other than the optical out I can't think of any reason to get a gen 1 over a gen 2. Issues will be worked out over time, gen 1 will get updated to (presumably) the same OS and features. Gen 2 hardware is better overall, but for some reason still has a stupid small 8G internal storage.

I've been having a good experience with my gen2.

Bought a stick and tv version during the Black Friday sale at Best Buy.

Have xmbc loaded and fire starter.
Have a usb mouse and Bluetooth keyboard hooked up with no issues.

The 8gb internal storage was an issue for me. I have a 32 gb micro as card in the back slot and purchased a 4 way usb hub and a usb to micro as adapter to add another 32gb of sd storage to the device.

I also purchased a Amazon gamepad off of their website and have been using gamefly streaming service which is performing exceptionally well for me

My male A to male A usb adapter will be here tomorrow so this weekend I will be going for root so I can get play store installed as well as apps2sd so I can reduce some of the internal memory being used.
