Hello,

I'm looking to buy a smartwatch and i'm choosing between a sony smartwatch 2 or a android wear device;

If i buy a android wear powered device i will only be able to use it for notifications cause the voice commands will probably not support my language (dutch)

and if I buy a sony smartwatch 2 i'll be able to use it fully since i have a sony smartphone

is this smartwatch 2 good enough for reading facebook messages, skipping between music tracks, adjusting volume? (and maybe toggling wifi, nfc, etc off on my phone from the watch) and ofcourse checking the time :p (considering the fact that it only has a 180mhz cpu) ?

and if I buy a sony smartwatch 2 i'll be able to use it fully since i have a sony smartphone

thanks,

I can see the SW2 receiving a decent price drop on Android Wear release.

If it's a cheap smartwatch you want that does the job well then the SW2 will be just that at that time.

If you want the cream of the crop & don't mind paying a little more than the current SW2 price then wait for Android Wear & get one of those.

Either way, I'd say Android Wear will be the deciding factor on further investment or the death of the smartwatch.

@noahvt no support for dutch, where did you get that?

google now responds pretty well to spoken dutch, so i assume google wear will as well

concerning the SW2, yes it can do all of that, most of it for free, might need a paid app or 2, but most of them cost a dollar or less

The SW2 does all of that and you don't even need a Sony phone. Android wear will maybe do half that stuff at best. It's just Google now with rich notifications.

I'm a bit surprised of al this wiping and swiping I see in the different video's on the Net. Looks like one needs to scroll a lot to get to the information you want. I find the icon style on the SW2 easier and it seems faster.

google is going to add an option for non English language devices so that you can give a command in English and the speak your native a language

example

send message to x
ik zal niet op tijd zijn voor de vergadering omdat mijn trein vertraging heeft

that's nice cause it would be a bit stupid to suddently start sending English texts to people i know xD so I think i'm going to go for a android wear device possible the moto 360 if it gets released in the next 2 weeks else i'll go for the lg one

I believe it is a little bit stupid to talk to your watch. It looks kind of ridiculous, i would never do it publicly.
agreed !!!!

I personnally went for sw because the apps don't need speech to work but because you asked I gave you information and not an opinion

Any word from Sony how they plan to maintain the SW2 when Wear is released? Will there be continued development for this platform?

I must say I have the sw2 since December and I'm very happy with it. It can do all you asked for and obviously shows the hour ?
Moreover the battery lasts 4 or 5 days depending on your use, it's water resistant, you can run with it using endomondo, runtastic and other apps like these...
I use it with a Samsung galaxy s4, and the results are really good! I wouldn't change it right now for an android wear one. Maybe next Android wear generation if they are as good as they seem to be and my sw2 is dead.
I would say, if you can get it for less than 120€ go for it ;)

@Tuborg68: i tried communicating with Sony about the SW2, through their forum, multiple tweets, but am not getting any replies

it's anyone's guess when the next update (if any) will be released

that's the advantage of google wear, skins aren't allowed, which means manufacturers can easily update their watch when google releases a new version

and it'll attract a lot more developers

15 years ago, when Bluetooth headsets become more affordable, using one seems so strange that some friends of me start calling me the nickname Cyborg everytime we meet. Today with the popularization of the technology nothing is strange and even less stupid.
If someone like to have the latest technology couldn't care about what others might think or say, like in other areas of life.

I have a SW2 and have the same doubt when when Android Wear were introduced last week. But SW2 is more easy to work with notifications because you can chose the extension apps that you want to install to get notifications, you can also get notifications from message app or Hangouts app if you choose too, or you can also answer calls on your phone or BT because you have a Sony handset, i'm planning to by a Sony handset just to use this feature.
And when the Android Wear SW become diverse from different brands and with more languages i will think in bought one.

Can anyone reccomend a place/store to buy this smartwatch, I checked at bestbuy and it costs 200 dollars over there while in my country (Belgium) it's just 130 euros is there any shop in America where this watch has a similar price?

Get it used on ebay. I see them selling for $70-$80. One advantage of having Sony's Smartwatch is that Sony is a household name, so people will see this watch at Best buy and just get it as a gift for people, and the giftee ends up not being really interested in smartwatches, so he/she sells. Their loss our gain.
