Open Camera

The Android app "Open Camera" can record video in UHD on the Samsung Note 3.

It has a menu to select the bitrate, up to 100 Mbps.

Unfortunately, the framerate is only 16 fps on my SN3 442.

So...

I have a UK Note 3 which is stock but rooted on 4.4.2. I would like to just increase the JPEG quality since they look rather compressed, and bump the audio to 192kbps for all video modes while leaving everything else at defaults. How would I go about doing this?

EDIT: Have gone with the apk in the first post... but how do I get 1080/60 activated? The limit on record time is apparently gone in 4K mode but i only have the usual 1080p and other modes.

EDIT: Having checked the entire thread I see this question has come up a few times and nobody has answered it. Hm.

More info about the 4GB limit

Background: files created by the Samsung Camera (or other camera app such as Open Camera) are limited to a maximum size of 4GB.
The filesystem of the internal memory of the Note is not limited to 4GB.

The Samsung camera app has a built in limit of 4GB. This app limit can be removed by modding. This mod worked fine on previous version of Android but has no effect on the latest TW 4.4.2.

Does this limit come from the Android file system? No.
Proof: I wrote a small app that successfully created a 5.2 GB file on the internal memory.

Where could this limit come from?

I would guess from the following system libs, which are used by the Samsung camera:

secmediarecorder.dex
libsecmediarecorder_jni.so

I decompiled both but have not been succesfull finding a limit in those files.

Any suggestion or help would be welcome.

For the sound, I would suggest to edit the file media_profiles.xml and increase the minimum bitrate for audio as shown below for 192 kbps:

<AudioEncoderCap name="aac" enabled="true"
minBitRate="196608" maxBitRate="256000"
minSampleRate="8000" maxSampleRate="96000"
minChannels="1" maxChannels="2" />

I have not tried this. Use this trick at your own risk.

I set, what you write, but after every reboot I have the old settings back. What I do wrong? Have anyone a complete media_profiles. xml for me to overwrite my file. I use the smooth motion default mod, but I have only 128kbits sound in the video. Thanks, Farid

So I'm somewhat interested in modifying my camera to unlimited 4K, but am curious to find out some of the results from you out there who have already done this. Does it make your phone heat up? I've been told the reason behind the 5 minute limit is because of just this. A Samsung rep told me that...not that I trust everything THEY say.

i have a at&t note 3 on 4.3 stock and i followed the directions to rename and replace samsungcamera2.apk and downloaded the 50mb4gb file but everytime i take a 1080 video and check the its still at 16.9 17mb and audio is only 128k..what could i be doing wrong? thanks in advance
I have the same problem. I have AT&T 4.4.2 and it does not work. I tried different methods. One time after flashing, accessing my camera's filters kept crashing the camera app. This doesn't seem to work for the Note 3 N900A for AT&T. If Anyone has it working on AT&T please let me know. OP, please update compatibility post.

It would be nice if there was an app that calibrates the camera by fixing the saturation and color temp as soon as the picture is taken (not post processing).
