While I always love new tech, I feel that hardware is outpacing software at the moment. Manufacturers need to spend more time tweaking software for existing sensors. Also a larger main sensor would leave less room for the auxiliary ones. I personally would love next gen to be the same main sensor with better software (and maybe bring back aperture switching), and the same auxiliary config (ultra wide, 3x, 10x) but with better sensors in them instead.
I agree there's no point having fancy hardware if it can't deliver the expected results due to poor software. I feel like companies make questionable decisions like not using the 3x zoom for portraits for example. I mean I am sure they have teams of experts but still make these stupid decisions. I wonder why.

That's definitely a valid point here, proven by the fact that in many cases Gcam gets better image results. This is why I feel its a dumb not so clever strategy of Samsung and others to block 3rd party camera access to sensor, like on the zoom lenses on the S21U... I mean in the end a device sold is a device sold, even if the user prefers another camera app than the stock one....

My assumption would be development cycles are too short to fully adapt to a new sensor, so you do what you can in the time you have - then the device is released and they work on it with updates until the next device is up for adaption...
True seems like that's what it is. But I feel like that might backfire as they are spoiling the customer experience and risk driving loyal customers away.

Foggy yesterday morning. Full auto, exynos, last firmware AUB9.
BTW. First photo little postproduced in lightroom mobile. Added vignette, more vibrant and punched whites and shadows, just all, the rest is stock.

Just a short question to 4k60 video and the optical zoom system: Can you switch between the lenses while the video is recording? Just tried it in 4k60, the "leaf" zoom buttons dissapear when the recording starts, only digital zoom is available with pinch to zoom. Before the record i can switch to 3x and 10x and start it, but switching during recording doesnt.
It works however in all other video modes...is this a bug?

Amazing what these smart phone cameras can do!!!

Yet some will still tell you the camera on the S21 U is so awful you should be sending it back for a refund :).

New update seems to have improved processing on the x10 lens, I said I would never do it, but pixel peepers will love it :).

Processing is now more natural in the bottom shot, especially for Bokeh effect.

Overall the x10 zoom lens is now producing more usable pictures :).

Now a much better macro pic of my eye. There was a bright light source in front of me, so I had to take exposure down, improve details, etc in snapseed. Anyway, awesome details. Macro camera is amazing!

I don't play with post processing much these days, but AD Photoshop/LR on the mobile is surprisingly good, this is going to be printed to acrylic plate at somepoint.

The dynamic range of the S21U really is quite something, even jpgs allows for post processing to the exact temperature 'look' you want.

The depth and general tone of pictures the S21 U is able to capture really did use to be only possible on 'proper' camera systems, even the x10 lens produces half decent efforts in post.

Add in the fact the entire work flow is possible on the phone, so no peeking on the back of a LCD camera screen, no faff with uploading to a laptop, no LR library to manage, no need to worry about backup due to the cloud, am pretty sure I can also send these file direct to Photobox/Snapfish or similar for large format printing all from the phone.......

From a purely a photography point of view, the S21 U is outstanding, there is no other way to put it.
