Can a stuck volume button be disabled? Phone keeps entering fastboot.

Hi, I dropped my phone in a puddle and, while it has dried out and seems to be working fine, the volume down button doesn't work anymore. That isn't a big deal, however, when I rebooted my phone I found that it thinks the button is depressed, so it keeps trying to start fastboot.

I'm not sure if there's any way to just bypass this and boot normally or not. If I press volume up I can boot into Mi-Recovery 3.0, which gives me the options of rebooting, wiping the data, or connecting with MiAssistant.

I'm reluctant to wipe my phone unless there's no other option, and I'm not even sure that would help anyway. I have tried getting into it with MiAssistant, but I can't seem to get it to connect to my PC, and even if I could I wouldn't know what to do with it after that.

I thought if I couldn't bypass fastboot and start normally then perhaps I could change a file (Key layout file?) to disable volume down and flash the file either via fastboot or ADB.

Does anyone have any ideas? Either a way of getting around fastboot or a way to edit and flash the appropriate .kl file to disable the volume down button? Or another option I haven't thought of...

As it remains I'm kind of screwed as my email and Steam both use 2-step verification through my phone, so until I get this fixed I won't be doing much else!
