Can I disable/uninstall?

I've started using Hangouts as my default SMS application on the request of my brother, he uses it. Can I uninstall or disable the stock SMS application? Do I need to have both running?

Before anyone asks, yes I am rooted. I have a Developer Edition. I just can't remember if it's safe to uninstall the stock SMS app. I know in the past it wasn't safe to do so but since Hangouts is basically a fancier SMS app I was wondering if it was safe to remove the stock one.

Since you have set Hangouts as your default sms app, you don't need to do anything to the stock sms app. No need to disable or delete stock.

No.. Don't do anything to the stock app.... It needs to be there... Better hide it using hiding apps/launchers

I disabled it. No issues whatsoever. Stock 4.4.2 not rooted. I hate clutter so I can't stand having a redundant app. Just use the stock OS disable feature. Do not freeze or uninstall it through titanium or similar program.

That's what I thought. I'm like you, I hate havint multiple apps on my phone that all do the same thing. I'll just disable it then.

Sorry. I couldn't sent messages via Hangouts once when i disabled Messaging. It Stopped Working very often.
Now I tried and it's good..
