I run a galaxy s2. I have some knowledge. I'm not a noob. With that said.

I need to do a complete copy, titanium back up or nandroid on a evo 3d. but I only have one chance to do this.
This is my dead son's phone, and I would like to be able to save the text, and email on there. It is unlocked, but I am pretty sure it is not rooted. I don't want to dig into this phone and crash it, because some passwords are active. I can read some of his email, and some instant messages, and these are what I want to keep.

Any help would be great. Everything I have found will wipe the phone.

Firstly... Sorry for your loss.

Before you try to do any backing up, maybe you could take a lot of screenshots.

Edit..if you use sms backup and restore, you can save the texts to the sd and then view them from the app even after you've erased the phone data, as long as you don't erase the sd card. If you know his email password, the emails are safe.

If the phone is unlocked, he should have a custom recovery.

How to nandroid backup. Take the battery out of the phone and then replace it, now hold the volume down key and press power. You should see the hboot screen (bright white with some writing). Choose recovery by using volume down then press power. Once in recovery, choose backup. As you probably know, this will create an image of his phone without corrupting what he's already got.

If he has a custom Rom you could probably get to recovery by holding the power button then choosing reboot>recovery.

I can get to the hboot, but there is no custom rom or recovery. The phone is not rooted.
I don't have any of his passwords, that is the biggest problem.

My galaxy sII i rooted with no problems, or loss. I was hopping I could do the same with this.

Download this http://db.tt/iL588Uib and rename it to PG86IMG.zip, make sure its on the root of your SD card. Go to hboot and when asked, press vol up to flash. It's a 4ext recovery image in a zip.Now you can do a nandroid backup.

Here's a superuser zip that you can flash in recovery. You'll need it if you want to back up apps. http://db.tt/UOYV34VB

I'm sorry to heard that man. But to answer your question. No you can't do a back up of the current rom and data ect...... Without been rooted!!!!! Not that I know off! But if you don't wanna mess the data you just have a few useful options.

For backing up the sms.
*sms back up
*go sms
*mms back up

For email.

You have 1 option that you can try...

* and that's screen shots like the user above say it... Unless you wanna forward every email to your email.

Thank you.

I did back up all sms, Then forwarded all email I wanted to keep to me. A few screen shots, copied the pictures, and music. Not what I wanted, but it will do.

The phone was not unlocked as I thought, only carrier unlocked. Root was not possible.

The suggestions helped a lot, Thank You!
