Can i root the device without traingle or binary counter going up

Hi guys

i buyed a galaxy s3
i camed from Galaxy note, i know with Note if u flash roms kernels within CWM
u wont get Traingle and binary counter wont get up

my question is i dont need CWM but only root
is there a way to root the device without these things that would be very nice
i read the instructions but is CWM necessary to gain root acces?
