I'm glad this worked, because holy hell.... getting any Google app to work reliably without either an instant shutdown, or missing alerts or or or was driving me nuts.

The phone works SO much better already. I really do feel bad for Chinese users.

  • Unlock the bootloader
  • Download the RetCN with LMSA,
  • Move the RetCN to a different folder,
  • Rename the RetEU to the RetCN name
  • Move the renamed RetEU to ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles

Download the RetCN with LMSA,
Move the RetCN to a different folder,
Rename the RetEU to the RetCN name
Move the renamed RetEU to ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles

It works, thank you!
After flash the phone will keep the OTA updates with the EU ROM?

Do I need to extract the downloaded ROM zip file and rename the folder?

Just tried doing that and got a fail and now the phone does not have an OS on it.

Edit: Reflashed the CN rom so the phone is at least in a working state. However, when I try to flash the EU rom, it gives an error on the fastboot flash. I have the 8+256 GB version so not sure if that makes any difference.

Yes you need to unzip firmware to use with LMSA.
What does getvar all say?
Code:
 fastboot getvar all

Edit Unlock the bootloader first

The bootloader needs to be unlocked to flash a different software channel.

Can I unlock it throught he developer mode options in the settings or do I need to do it via fastboot?
You must do Both.

You must do Both.
Thank you so much for all the help mate! Unlocked the bootloader and just flashed the EU retail version. The phone is setting up now. Hope this ROM also takes care of teh apps being killed in the background and notifications not being delivered.

By the way, does unlocking the bootloader have any effect on banking apps or Google Pay?

Depends on the banking app, Google pay yes.
Magisk can hide unlocked bootloader, most of the time.

I've put on Magisk and tried flashing the patched boot file. Google pay still won't budge and when I check safety net within Magisk, it gives some errors about basic integrity and such. Not sure what I need to do to get Google Pay working.

Edit: Even my work email etc can't sign in because it's saying the device is rooted. Crap.
Further edit: I just went and bricked my device. With the retail ROM on the device, I went to adb and locked the device. Rebooted and phone threw up message saying no OS present. Now, I can't even unlock since the USB debugging option is not checked and adb is asking for that to be done first. A whole other can of worms now to sort through.
Even further edit: Ok, kicking myself for being so stupid now. The phone is not being detected by the Rescue and Smart Assitant program. Also tried RSD lite but even there it doesn't show up in fastboot. Any adb command i try is giving an error, except getvar all, which tells me that it is communicating but something is messed up which isn't allowing me to run any other commands.

Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise, I'll need to write it off as a few hundred dollars down the drain.

Rsd lite only works with Windows 7 or XP machines.
If you locked the bootloader without the device being completely stock, there maybe no fixing.
Magisk doesn't hide by default you need to change settings in the app.

The latest version of RSD Lite installed just fine on Windows 10. However, it just doesn't detect the phone. Not sure whether that is due to the version of Windows or for whatever reason the phone is also not being detected in LMSA either. This is quite puzzling since in fastboot mode, getvar all actually is able to get info from the phone, so if that is being detected, then one of the softwares should be able to rewrite the original rom.

Anyway, loss of the phone aside, it was quite an experience going from the Chinese rom to the retail one. Totally worth it, though unfortunately, the unlocked bootloader trips the safety net.
