Really. $100 for an extra 16gb. I love my nexus devices but why oh why is their reasoning behind non-expandable storage. Really turns me off. (Although I already have plans on getting it.

Not to stay off topic, but does keep costs down, slightly.

How does paying $100 more keep costs down. I'd pay an extra $50 for a model with expandable storage. Gimme an 8gb model with an SD card and I'll pay $400 no prob.

I'm not disputing your claim, as I would do the same thing. Though there are those that can't afford it and go to those 'budget' phones, so they 'cut costs' where they can - in this case with the nexus' being the camera and sd card.

Cause a phone with a snapdragon 800 @ 400$ is a pretty good steal in and of itself, but I digress.

I think he meant build costs. It would be more hardware and software and therefore a more costly build. For the record, I'm not saying I wouldn't prefer it to have one. I'm just trying to clarify what I think he meant, feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.

I see what you guys are saying. I have no idea his much more it cost to have that SD card slot in a phone. I can't imagine that it would be that much though.

Sorry for the rant. Done now. Lolz

Sony did this with the ps3. The early ones were backwards compatible and cost 600 dollars when it released. They removed the hardware needed to be backward compatible and it helped get the price down. The ps4 will be 400 dollars at release and is a beast for a console. But it won't be backwards compatible, otherwise it would have probably had to be 600 again.

With the availability of cloud storage, it's not a huge concern for a lot of people. I'd prefer it, but if the Nexus 5 works on Verizon I'd still probably get it.

Cloud storage isnt ideal for me. I live in Canada and data is relatively expensive. $45 a month plan gets me just 1gb and $10/GB after that. Most you can get from any carrier right now is 6gb for $120 month. No such thing as unlimited data here. T-Mobile is coming here soon. Hopefully they change the game a bit.
