Cannot open Word Mobile on HTC touch pro

i downloaded few documents from my uni website, it has a couple pages and a diagram at end, when i try opening on the phone i get an error:

An error occurred. The document could not be opened.

i then edited the document on my PC by removing the diagram and also making some changes in the document, but it still gave me the same error.
the document is Microsoft Office Word 97 - 2003 Document.

Any help ?

have you tried any other ms word files?

yes, i just tried one line on the PC, sent to mobile and was able to open it, is there any program out there that allows large documents with diagrams to be opened to Htc touch pro.
