car mount causing phone to get too hot

I have the official vzw incredible car mount, and I really like using to mount the phone as a gps in car. The only trouble that I have with it is that with the phone mounted low on the windshield, the sun heats up the phone to the point where the battery becomes too hot (60 degrees Celsius) and the phone stops charging. I then have to take the phone off of the mount and place it somewhere not in the sun until it cools off.

I have been trying to think of ways to combat this, and have come up with a few ideas:
I could place the mount high on the glass, so that the phone is not in the sun. The only issue with this is that the power cord is in the way.
I could make a shield out of thick white paper to block the sun from warming up the phone. This would have a side benefit of reducing glare.

Any other thoughts and/or is anyone else having this trouble?

i had this problem with my Moto Droid with the official Verizon windshield mount and this was in the middle of winter. when i got my Inc i decided to go a different route. i got a mount that bolts to a seat mounting bolt and has a long gooseneck on it. it doesn't look as sleek and it's not in an ideal place to be used as a GPS but i'd rather not kill my phone from extreme heat.

it's out of the sun most of the time and so far the temps have stayed under 42c.

Is this a common problem? I'm planning a road trip soon, about a fifteen hour drive, and planned to use my incredible for navigation. I'll mount it on the dashboard and have the ac running (comfortably, not full blast all the time though, and it won't be blowing directly on the phone). Do you his think this will be a problem?

if the sun is shining directly on it for an extended period of time, then yes, it will be a problem. i seriously don't know how Verizon can sell their mount and not have a warning about it possibly overheating. i would definitely crank some A/C on it if you can, this is what i did with my Moto Droid when i was using it and it kept it within a safe range.

This was reported before, as long as your phone is completely charged BEFORE you start using the Navigation App, you should be perfectly fine.

The problem exists when the phone is being charged and the Navigation is chewing through the battery at the same time. I had this happen to me and i had to place it in front of the A/C until it got cool enough to continue charging the battery (the heat will trigger a defense mechanism to prevent battery explosions), once it reached 100% it was fine and ran directly off of the charging port.

all devices will overheat from extreme exposure to the sun. Why put a warning on it? It happened to my Sirius radio that was mounted on my vent with the clip set. I had to take it and put it up if I wasn't in the car or the sun would overheat it and it wouldn't work. Throw the A/C on and presto no problems! It would run as long as I was in the car!

It's common sense hot = not working.

My GPS device has never overheated in the 2 years i have owned it. Even when its empty and has to charge the battery and power the device at the same time. The lack of ventilation is the problem here, not sun exposure.
