we have Places wich is the same as location , i like car home apk from the g2 the user interface is pretty cool but like most of them has limited functionality .here is one of my favorites Car home from spinning head .

for me none of this apps works for me ... not the one from htc not car home ...
when i start car home it starts navigation from htc (htc location) ????!!!!
and when i close navigation and want to start car home again nothing happens ??!!!!
anyone with same problem ??

That app looks pretty nice. I'm gonna try that out.
do you have the phone in the doc ? i have never seen this happen before i think u should try to uninstall the app and try a clean install with a clean download of the apk . also try the spinning head apk and report back .
p.s. do something for me , open task manager , hit menu , advanced , running services , stop all of the programs running just leave , settings,google services and touch input lets see if that helps.

Hi, I'm having the same issue here. When I put my Sensation into the HTC Car Upgrade kit, it allways starts the pointless HTC Navigation app. I'm not willing to pay another 39€ when the car kit is 50€ already.
I found not solution yet without having root access. Installing other Car panels did not help.
Any ideas?

Can't you just close that and load your car home of choice?
I'm wondering what that does with the Tmo version. I hope it doesn't launch telenav.
if it does then we r missing the htc emulator for car doc and the first thing the phone will do when place in the car dock it will start the google nav not the t mobile v telenav , but we can control it if we download dock emulator from the market try it it works.
there is a couple of them my favorite its called car mode control u can find it in tools ,it gives you more options other then just run the nav app when in car dock.
Ohh - your wording threw me off. I already use car mode.
I realize why the original car panel was excluded. It does not work with the modified settings that HTC Sense brings. Launching Android Settings from Car Home crashes the app.
HTC's Car Panel looks great, but it keeps GPS on constantly.. which leads to a VERY hot phone when I undock it.. is there any way to keep it from needlessly keeping GPS on?
I miss the good 'ole Car Home from my N1... Car Panel is pure eyecandy and would be great if not for this little quirk..

Have you tried just unselecting gps in the location settings? The default car home is available in this thread or another.
The HTC panel may be broken onyour s4g version and that's why it wasn't included.

I didn't see any location settings for the car panel app..unless you mean the phones settings..but that would cripple navigation wouldn't it?

my fault - i had lived with apps accessing gps for so long I always turned it off when not needed. I never knew until now that it shouldn't happen. One solution would be to use the notification bar quick settings to enable and disable gps. Soon as I start htc car panel gps cuts on and stays on.
Found a bit of a fix.. I set a Tasker profile with an application context with Car Panel that sets GPS off. It does the trick, and if I tap the maps button, GPS pops back on automatically, and turns back off when switched back to Car panel. 
but if I tap navigation, I get a dialog box saying "GPS is disabled. Show location settings?" with an OK. GPS is enabled by the time this dialog box comes up, but no matter what it kicks me back out to Car Panel.. any thoughts on this; is there a way to force it to ignore that GPS is disabled for the few milliseconds it takes for Tasker to re-enable it?

Argg...I am having the same problem with my Bell HTC Sensation 4G. There does not appear to be a Car Mode for the device which you can toggle on/off using the "Car Mode Control" app from the market. Very frustrating that HTC has embedded so much of their stuff into Android that basic functionality (choice) is no longer available.
Anyone figure out how to enable Car Mode on the Sensation 4G? Maybe with temp root?
