Carrier Switch Snapdragon

I've read every post here. Am I understanding this correctly in that all US S8+'s have the same Hardware (which includes all of the 4G LTE bands and frequencies used by different carriers)? All we then have to do is to go through this "Carrier Switch" process to obtain the Original Carrier bloatware files or load the Non-Carrier bloatware files (the G955U1 firmware) and the phones will fully work on a specific desired carrier when using that Carrier's SIM card?

I mainly want to clarify this because I have an AT&T S8+ and want to give it to a friend who is on the Verizon Network. I think the Non-Bloatware files are best even though the OTA updates will probably come later than any carrier's updates. We would still get OTA updates with the G955U1 firmware, right?
Thanks in advance for everyone's help! I really appreciate it!

Can anyone help? Seems thread might be dead. :(
Are all of these old firmware versions still valid now (Sept. 2017) when trying to switch carriers or should I get the latest versions of these files? I'm going to try another PC today but I get nothing but failures. Tried 3 different cables, 3 different ports, updated drivers. Running modded Odin as an Admin. Other threads said to have USB Debugging switched on in the phone. Another thread also said to Untick Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time under the Odin Options tab. I've tried the G955U1 unlocked path and also the Carrier specific path (AT&T stock currently on phone, OS 7.0 , can't get through step one for Carrier switch/AP, want to eventually have a Verizon phone, always stuck for over an hour on SetupConnection or Odin is stuck and get Windows error to close).

Thanks OP. I have a Verizon branded S8+, and I just flashed the unlocked version which I downloaded from updato.com. It works well on Cricket Wireless. Hopefully, not doing what's in post #3 would still allow me to obtain new firmware in the future.

Hello everyone! I bought a Tracfone S8 (SM-G950U) supposedly unlocked. Swappa shows it as clear for activation. I've been trying to use it on MetroPCS and for the past week, I tried everything possible to at least get a new firmware on the phone. The LTE and SMS work fine, but when I try to make a phone call I get an error in the top left corner saying "No SIM or SIM error." Also, I know the SIM is ok because Metro gave me a new SIM and I get the same error. I downloaded more than 10 different firmwares including the SAMPWND and the original TFN firmware. None of the firmware is flashable to this phone. Even the original TFN firmware. I tried the modded odin and the regular 3.12.7. I enabled USB debugging mode. Nothing works. At this point I'm really frustrated. Anyone else experienced the same issue? I would appreciate any help! Thank you

After flashing the unlocked firmware, do you also have perform the carrier switch? I could not get the APN settings to stick with xfinity SIM. The listed APNs would constantly cycle in and out. They would be listed one moment and would disappear the next. Even manually entering the APN didn't work. However, I had no issues at all with my Tracfone SIM.

Forgive me if this question has been asked before. I've flashed my VZW S8+ to ATT firmware and everything is working well except OTA. When I did the 955U1 conversion (XAA/XAA/VZW) updates worked great. I use my phone for calls quite often and really would like to have VoLTE/WIFI calling working and also was hoping to get updates working too.

The phone reports ATT/ATT/VZW now and all features I'm testing work great on the phone, just can't get it to take OTA

you can download csc manager or root essentials and edit your csc options manually. then you will be able to get ota again.

or try this VOLTEfix from Verizon thread. if you follow the steps: Reset Phone--- then execute Install1.bat execute Install2.bat and this should help you to get the csc full back to ota

My S8+ is Sprint too. I tried to have the customer service to unlock my device. But because I use the account less than 3 months, they won't let it.
I just try to use another sim card abroad of US on this device.

So what should I do? Follow the 25 steps? The CSC Value of the new sim card is not in the list.

yes, you do need to unlock through your provider unless u r Sprint

you cant use another sim card on sprint until you unlock it.. i actually work for Sprint lol so following these steps will not help you at all as it does not sim unlock the phone.. u should be able to unlock however with say a z3x box.. theyve had the capability since s8/s8+ was released since ur not eligible yet with Sprint

Isn't Verizon s8/s8+ unlocked ?
yes.. lol.. i said need to be unlocked through carrier unless with sprint.. since vzw is already unlocked by the carrier then obviously that statement doesnt apply.. besides verizon, i know sprint can be unlocked with z3x

How to change carrier:
1. Download Factory Binary, EngBoot, G955U normal, and the G955W firmware
2. Turn off phone
3. Hold down on Bixby button + power + volume down
4. open Odin v3.12.7
5. add the Factory Binary to the AP section of Odin.
6. Plug your phone into your computer (NEEDS TO BE WINDOWS) with Odin open
7. Make sure your device is connected and recognized by Odin.
8. Click start.
9. One the phone reboots run the ADB command, adb reboot bootloader
10. Open modded Odin and flash the EngBoot
11. Click start
12. Once the phone reboots type the command adb reboot bootloader
13. Put the HOME_CSC of the G955W firmware into the CSC part of Odin (unmodded)
14. Click start
15. Open IME setting on Factory Binary
16. Type in *#243203855#
17. Select XAC
18. Click install
19. Wait for phone to reboot
20. Once it does open terminal and type in adb shell
21. Then type in echo "XXX" > /efs/imei/mps_code.dat
22. Type in exit into adb shell
23. Type in adb reboot bootloader
24. Flash the G955U firmware of your choosing without Userdata. Also make sure to flash the non-home CSC
25. Enjoy your new carrier!

CSC Values (replace on of these with the "XXX" in step 21):
BST Boost
VZW Verizon
ATT ATT
USC US Cellular
ACG C Spire
TMK MetroPCS
VMU Virgin Mobile
TFN Tracfone
XAS Sprint
TMB T-Mobile
XAA Unlocked US
SPR Sprint
CCT Xfinity Mobile

Don't entirely know which ones these are:
GCF World Wide
ACG Some Mid West Carriers
LRA A bunch, cant figure it out

After you do this, you can flash the EngBoot then run the command to any carrier then just reflash the original system.
Going from Verizon to AT&T, I am looking for latest stock. I know I also posted this in this thread but havent gotten response yet so hoping some knowledgeable people here can point me right...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8+/how-to/g955u-att-five-odin-files-stock-t3650637

If I follow steps above from post 3:
Can I flash the files from above thread instead in step 24?
Also, the XXX in step 21 is the carrier you are flashing FROM, not TO , right?

Sorry guys, just to make sure I don't f_ck things up with my new phone... mine's unlocked, Verizon Wireless version, SM-G955U, Last security revision dated Apr 1st 2017, Nougat 7.0, base band number G955USQU1AQD9, software version SAOMC_SM-955U_OYN_VZW_0167, 98891a41454f454f57, VZW/VZW/VZW. It's working fine with my carrier from Argentina. Will this firmware version posted on the first board message maintain the same band settings and all? Or will i have to start testing with the info mentioned in the second post? If not, what file should I flash? I won't be able to use Wifi-Calling at all since I would have needed to get the phone from my carrier, at almost 3 times the money I paid for the phone in the US. Thanks in advance.

HI guys,
I flashed my 955U with 955U1 firmware and now I cant go back to the Verizon model. The reason is the OTA updates that I've heard are 2-3 months slower for the unlocked phones.
When I flashed back the latest VZW 955U software I don't get all the Verizon stuff also OTA updates stopped working completely and I get XAA/XAA/VZW.
Is there any way to go back to the Verizon?
