Just figured I would start a Case thread on the VK815 LG X8.3

This is the new one from Verizon that Launched with the G4. The older 8.3 and newer X8.3 are about the same size but the speakers are in different locations.

LG 8.3 (1st gen)
216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3 mm

LG X8.3
216.7 x 126.5 x 8.6 mm

The dimensions are about the same, with the X8.3 being a .3mm (point 3 mm) thicker. Hardly noticeable. The X8.3 also comes with a stylus pen, which may be useless to most as it is just a regular stylus, not a smart pen.

If you don't care about pulling out the stylus, you can probably get away with a normal 8.3 case on the new X8.3. However if you want something specific here is what I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/IVSO-PAD-X8-3...1434139101&sr=1-46&keywords=LG+G+Pad+8.3+case

I have the Incipio Folio right now:
http://www.incipio.com/cases/tablet...ic-flip-cover-faraday-folio-lg-g-pad-x83.html

The Incipio looks great in the pictures and has a great feel... although the material wraps around both sides and a hard case... so it makes it very thick and heavy (very heavy). The extra length of the wrap makes it annoying to deal with while the tablet is open. I am almost temped to cut off most of the flap. Also the Incipio is not a smart case, although the LG's support the magnetic Screen On/Off. I am pretty upset that a big name like Incipio is missing this feature. For the heavy price tag, extra weight and thickness, and lack of smart wake... I would pass on the Incipio.

I will try the IVSO and report back. Looks like they ship from China through slow mail.

Here are the differences.

Thanks for the info!

I am seriously considering ordering one of these tablets, but it is very tough to find any information concerning them. I know it is a bit off-topic, but could I trouble you for a brief summary of your impressions of this device? I have the original GPad 8.3 wireless version still going strong thanks to root and CM 12.1, but would love to have the LTE feature. I am particularly interested in the speed of this new X version, and the screen quality.

Thanks much!

I never had an 8.3 but have a 7. Screen quality is kinda wasted on me. As long as its 1080 or above, its fine. I have too many tablets already to really test it. It is as thin as my nexus 7 2013, I just hate my incipio case for it I bought at Verizon so I hardly use it.

It seems fast. I haven't gamed on it but works without hiccup. It is rootable. With it being only on Verizon, it my not be that popular. Which means lack of devs and lack of a good community specifically working on it.

I bought it because it was $50 with the LG G4 that I wanted. It is a corporate account. I needed a tab for work. Been eyeballing the original 8.3, grabbed this cheap. I was pleasantly surprised by the FULL SIZED USB port and built in Stylus. It is a really good tablet to work with.

non-folio case

For various reasons, I wanted a MUCH sturdier, non-folio case. My Verizon store had one. BIG, fugly, lotsa corner padding, and like an OtterBox Defender, right down to ripping out the chinxy plastic screen 'protection', replacing with a real tempered glass one. It's simply labeled 'Rugged Cover for LG G Pad X8.3'. The code on my receipt is 'LGVK815RCBLK'.
