All current cases are garbage. someone on here said it best all cases are covers nothing more. my otterbox defender I had for my Galaxy 5 was outstanding 3/8 in lip all the way around. why is no one making a case like the older otterbox, what is the point of not protecting the edge . My Zizo is close even with the whitestone screen protector I cracked the protector from a 4 in fall on the edge of my desk.

It seems the biggest reason why you don't often see cases for this phone without raised edges is because of the curved screen. It's meant to be complimented and not impeded, at least that's the idea that Samsung and the case makers are going for. Personally, as long as the top and bottom edges of the case have raised lips where I can confidently place my phone face down I'm good. Spigen has always been good for that and I'm using their tough armor case right now. Besides raised top and bottom edges, I need VERY CLICKY button feedback. Not enough case designers pay attention, close attention, to the CLICKY feedback for their buttons.

This is true. 99.9% of the cases are made to give access to the curved edges, not take away access to them. However, the curved edges happen to be far much more likely to be the part of the display to break or crack if dropped - they are extremely vulnerable. That is why myself and a few others want a case that comes up above the display pane and protects the edges better. It also makes the phone easier to hold and use for my uses.

In my personal use case, I do not use the edge functions, in fact I turned off the edge functions completely in the settings. I actually do not like the curved edges and wish they just made a flat display, but since they don't and I still believe the Note is the best phone available for my uses, I live with that negative or con of the phone (from my perspective). But apparently a lot of people do like or use the edge functions of the curved display, so Samsung has decided to keep the curved edges on their phones. I am sure a big part of it is that the curved edges are a unique calling card for the high end samsung phones that differentiate them so Samsung keeps the curved edges for those reasons also.

The Zizo Bolt is pretty raised up. It's what I'm using and is well made.

I have purchased the zizo bolt twice for the Note 8... the case itself is great, but the kickstand is terrible. in both cases, the kickstand broke after a few uses and I am careful with my things.

Spigen's Tough and Slim Armor range of cases have a raised lip, which protects your device from accidental drops.
Bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073RW983G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Spigen Ultra Hybrid S, has discrete kickstand, feels 'light' but it's actually well constructed, sturdy. I picked the Midnight Black, though only the frame is black and the acrylic back is clear. The buttons are reasonably soft. Got the case delivered today, phone will be here tomorrow.

Just clicked on that link and it says: "Currently unavailable", good pick then, must be very popular.

People seem to be confusing the top and bottom of the case having raised edges versus the actual sides of the cases having raised edges that come up higher than the flat part of the display itself. The case listed in the post above me leaves the curved edges on the sides completely vulnerable for instance. The case I linked earlier in the thread (https://www.amazon.com/Ghostek-Cover...note+8+ghostek) actually has raised edges on the front, bottom and sides that are raised higher than the display itself, and the protection on the sides is actually there as opposed to 99.9% of other cases save for a brick huge otterbox style case.

And I really like it! Perfect fit. The top and the bottom sides of the frame are slightly raised, I can put it flat on the table, screen down and move a piece of paper underneath. Smooth, clean bezel of the case doesn't block the glory of the curved screen, really cool look. The case is back in stock for $14.
