Been using crdroid for half a day. Basically way ahead of los in terms of reception. Also, rom wise you are not missing much, great customization. (if you look at my old posts you can compare between crdroid and Los. Thanks for the tips OP.

(was on subway so i think no reception part comes from there)
You should try NOS as well
I have been using it for a day and it is very competitive to crdroid
Many enhancments like dirac and perfect notch implementation missing little parts from crdroid but overall more powerful to me

LOS vs MIUI Italy/DC results

All,

I tried to compile some speed tests over the last month between Washington, DC USA & various locations in London & through Italy.

I'll let you interpret the results. In general, I got better speeds using MIUI. However, MIUI misreports 4G in the US, but is actually only connected at 3G. This is a known issue due to the hardware bands utilized on POCO.

Hello all,

FYI. The fix implementeded in the roms is not actually is not increasing your network strength. It just shows a better signal.

'You ignoring RSSNR is just going to change the way android calculates the signal strength but not the signal strength itself'

not the network strength, no. that wouldnt be possible but my reception of said network. and again, i am within 500m of 5 network towers so under no circumstances should i have "no signal".
there are two fixes atm, the "ignore rssnr" one and the oneplus version, what does that one one do?
why does turning the screen off affect the signal or the calculation?
how does the calculation jump the signal from none to good/great?
is there a way to get the base signal recorded before it gets calculated?

edit:
The reason is that the modem reports a bad signal-noise ratio (RSSNR) to the system RIL which causes a improper read of the signal strength on the statusbar.

The REAL fix is to is to ignore the RSSNR value and base the signal result on dBm (actual signal level), when the noise value is very high which probably is what Xiaomi did to MIUI. This solves all signal issues for Oreo ROMs and Nougat ROMs.
this makes it sound like the ignore rssnr fix makes it so there is >no< calculation going on, just pure dbm reading. so maybe it is the other way around?

Has anyone tried the latest build of lineage os?
i just asked in the los thread if there had been any changes but since nothing is mentioned in the changelog i dont have high hopes.
still would be nice to hear from someone who tested it first hand (it's not going to be me tho).

Honestly because of all these reception issues i installed miui eu. No problem what so all and no bloatware. Can recommend people who wants stability. Bbs reports 100% great signal (if u can trust miui).

yeah, it's a shame and i dont understand it either since there is a working fix/workaround. i am happy with pixel experience and some tweaks for the moment.
i heard "miui eu" before, can you link me to a download? i never payed attention to what miui version i downloaded (i just checked and the last one i had was "global") but that's prolly down to the fact i didnt even know there were different ones...

Hello, Poco owner here. My mom uses 5s Plus running stock MIUI. I run the latest LOS with the latest vendor firmware (from Akhi). So I went to the phone's setting in About Phone > Phone Status > SIM on both phones. We're using the same provider and both phones are in the same position, here are the results.

Poco running LOS:
- -86 dBm 55 asu
-Signal bar only half full

Mi 5s Plus stock MIUI:
- -85 dBm 56 asu
-Full signal

I think this is because MIUI and custom ROMs calculate signal strength differently, as we can see there's not much difference between -85 and -86 dBm as my signal often fluctuate around -84 to -86. I'd say try and compare the signal level from SIM status too to be completely sure if it's custom ROM having worse cell signal.

the problem starts when the calculated signal strength is so bad the phone starts searching for a better cell which then drains your battery (you are probably lucky since it shows you still at half full).

edit: and the problem reaches its peak when you miss calls because it shows you with "no signal"
