You may dial *#1234#
look at PDA

If I want to do this cf root, is it important to know which one to flash or can I use anything from the first post?

Yes .. the file that you want to flash it should be same with your current version, if not, might be cause problems
So I prefer you to follow base on you version.
Otherwise, if you feel doubt about it, use amit cf-root which is a universal cf-root. able to flash any kind of rom![]()

Can you give me a link for that amit root? The only reason i will use cf root is to flash custom rom through CWM.

I've installed this ROOT:
CF-ROOT-DXKP9-10-11-2011.tar
and I got BOOT LOOP forever at Samsung logo.
Now I have to use CF-ROOT (old), it's work! Please fix.
Hi I have DDKP3 installed in my Phone which I downloaded from SamFirmware.com and now when i root with this CF-Root for KP3 the BootAnimation of Samsung doesn't shows, it shows only Samsung Logo Glowing
That's a bootloop. Reflash your phone and dont use this cf root. I dont recommend using this kernel for cf root. Try uc kernel instead.

Installing a new rom - This is the way I do it.
I really don't know about other's. But when I am moving to a new rom, I always follow these steps and have never had issues.
Once all the above are done and you have ensured that the phone is functioning normally, go for the mods.
- Read the concerned ROM post and if you dont understand ask for installation procedures.
- Take backup of all the apps to external sd card. I prefer titanium backup.
- Powerdown phone and Remove the external sd card.
- Do a factory reset and reboot.
- Start ODIN and fill in the required tabs as per requirement.
- Go to Download mode on the phone and connect the phone to pc and ensure that ID:COM shows Yellow.
- Flash the firmware and wait until the phone reboots and the odin shows green color. Now you can remove the usb cable.
- Once rebooted, do a factory reset again.
- From recovery clear Cache and reboot.

@ganesh
For ext4 take the three modules from my cf-root, open them with an hex editor and search for 2.6.35.7..... then change the part after CL to match with your kernel version.... Good luck!
