Hi all,

Today, I proudly present GomdoLight KitKat for KOREAN LG G / G2 / G3 / G3A / G3cat6 / Gflex / GK / Gpro / Gpro2 / LTE3 / Vu2 / Vu3 / Gpad7LTE, one of the most widely used (with 20,000+ users approximately) stock-based custom firmware in South Korea.

GomdoLight is more than 3 year old already (first version released on 19th December 2012), and is very mature.

Technically speaking GomdoLight is NOT a complete ROM, but rather a large-scale patch, which modifies official stock firmware to remove all the unnecessary components preloaded by operator/manufacturer, and reorganizes key system parts to 'basic' Android OS with manufacturer's flavor. For some devices GomdoLight's own specialized tool 'GomdoLight Sideloader' can make it possible to install GomdoLight directly over the stock firmware, even without rooting or flashing custom recovery!

GomdoLight is compatible with the following devices (BOLD indicates GomdoLight Sideloader support - no root required)
  • LG Optimus G: LG-F180S, LG-F180K, LG-F180L ("G")
  • LG G2: LG-F320S, LG-F320K, LG-F320L ("G2")
  • LG G3: LG-F400S, LG-F400K, LG-F400L ("G3")
  • LG G3A: LG-F410S ("G3A")
  • LG G3 Cat.6: LG-F460S, LG-F460K, LG-F460L ("G3")
  • LG G Flex: LG-F340S, LG-F340K, LG-F340L ("Gflex")
  • LG GK: LG-F220K ("GK")
  • LG G Pro: LG-F240S, LG-F240K, LG-F240L ("Gpro")
  • LG G Pro 2: LG-F350S, LG-F350K, LG-F350L ("Gpro2")
  • LG Gx: LG-F310L, LG-F310LR ("Gx")
  • LG Optimus LTE3: LG-F260S ("LTE3")
  • LG Optimus Vu2: LG-F200S, LG-F200K, LG-F200L ("Vu2")
  • LG Vu 3: LG-F300S, LG-F300K, LG-F300L ("Vu3")
  • LG G Pad 7.0 LTE: LG-V410 ("Gpad7LTE")

A very thorough and extensive (probably, the most extensive on entire xda) manual is provided at the download page, which contains literally everything you need to know to install GomdoLight. FAILURE TO READ THIS DOCUMENT BEFORE INSTALLING WILL ALWAYS LEAD TO VARIOUS UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Needless to say, I WILL NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ALREADY ADDRESSED IN THIS DOCUMENT.

Due to xda forum's limits (in functionality) I am posting a link to the separate (external) DOWNLOAD PAGE. There is no way I can link to each section in the document in xda posts, since xda does not support HTML tag. However some portions of the document are also introduced here.

But thanks for sharing this looks brilliant!

if you can run this zip (via gomdolight sideloader tool) you can make a backup image of system partition (gomdolight installer supports that by GUI), instead of nandroid.

the main menu will have 'system image backup/restore'. it will use dd command in the background to take a raw image of each system partition, but NOT the data partition.

Thanks for reply, yes I've made a system backup with adb in case anything did happen but same story cannot backup data partition which really i do want backing up before trying anything its not the biggest loss in the world but you know what its like constantly starting from scratch spending alot of time getting things back how they were, ill leave it a fue days and see if anyone trys on D838 if not ill just have to try myself

Thanks though juniecho! Ill try sideloader sometime this week.

you could use the stock LG BACKUP to back up apps and settings. that thing is almost as powerful as titanium. :)

Tried on f350 L very good system enhancement. Hope this will release on lollipop. Thank you for sharing.
right now lollipop is not supported because:
1) current lollipop firmware has a LOT of bugs including random reboots. LGE completely failed in quality control.
2) LGE is very developer-unfriendly. lollipop's selinux enforced there is practically no way for novice users to root after updating. and they have no plan to officially unlock bootloader.

when LGE changes their hostile attitude towards developers, and improve their firmware quality, i will surely reconsider lollipop support.

p.s. and, also note that the overall user experience is WAY BETTER with kitkat (as for now) :)

Yes I experince random reboot in lollipop. I see it's really hard to bring this to lollipop. But I happy using this now. Many thanks!

A great effort

Hi there.

First of all, I must appreciate your effort in developing Gomdolight. The effort you have put in to make us understand the installation process through flow charts, paragraphs, external links is indeed commendable. Bravo Zulu.

I have literally read each and every word of your user/installation manual and linked pages as well, strictly following your instructions. I have successfully installed Gomdolight in my F350L (G Pro 2). It is working very fine and I have no issues with it. As you also described, it very much responds to the user requirements and inputs and requests. Which is indeed a plus point.

Previously I was using Vietnamese ROMs on my LG Gx (F310L) and on this phone as well but it was not that impressive. One simply looses the strength and interface of stock ROM which in my opinion is of extreme importance. The reason I installed those ROMs was simple ... I do not live in Korea and using a Korean version in some other country. So I wanted to get rid of Korean pre-installed apps, wanted to have SIM tools in my app drawer, wanted to get rid of 'Call to Korea/Call to Local' dialogue each time I make call, wanted to have lengthy sms app, wanted to dial my network operator USSD codes as desired e.g *1111# (previously it was making it a voice call). All these 'desires' were very much fulfilled by those custom ROMs but at the same time I used to loose stock ROM interface and certain of its capabilities.

By using Gomdolight, I have the interface and power of stock ROM, I have got rid of pre-installed Korean apps which is very good infact and it makes me very happy and satisfied every time I look at my device.

Although I could not get rid of 'Call to Korea/Call to Local' dialogue and could not check my bill status by dialing *1111#. No problem , I can live with it.

Not sure of other problems but there is a way to get rid of 'Call to Korea/Call to Local' dialogue. A lot of man hours would be required for this job but it will eventually work. Just save all your numbers with + sign and country code. e.g. If you are in Pakistan then save all numbers in phone book like +92 XXX 1234567.

The problem of USSD code is inevitable. Not having SIM tools in app drawer is not a big issue - thats not so important.

Regards

Changelog request

Not available (first release)
I have already appreciated the quality work you have done by developing this excellent system enhancement patch.

Now I would request to to consider making an upgrade for non-Korea residents.

As for now, the device doesn't recognize that it is in some other country thats why it takes every call made from it as a roaming call and therefore asks "Call to Korea / Call to Local". I will try to upload some screen shots if I have the permission as my status is very preliminary.

Secondly, the device doesn't accept USSD codes of my network and doesn't call its helpline as well (e.g. 111, *1111# etc). This is probably because these are not used in Korea. If you can suggest a fix for this as well then it will be highly appreciated.

Regards.

i heard that the 'call to korea' issue is notorious for korean phones, could you check this out?
For Call to Korean issue, just check "Dialer's Settings" and set the country code to 0092.

i think he refers to the custom long distance call prefix. maybe you could pick other country code as well?

as for the USSD issue, right now i have no clue, but i will keep digging on it.
