I have been a very loyal Samsung customer since the Galaxy S. My last three phones have been the Galaxy NOTE N7000, an AT&T NOTE (I717), and an AT&T NOTE 2 (I317). The NOTE 2 may well be my last phone from Samsung/AT&T.

AT&T has always screwed up great phones. For example, the AT&T Galaxy S, Captivate (spelled Craptivate), had the FM radio and front facing camera removed while the rest of the world got the Galaxy S with those features. I ended up buying the Galaxy S from Canada just to get the FM radio and front facing camera. It worked well on AT&T's network.

The bastards at AT&T also keep the phone hardware out of Tablets such as the Galaxy Note 8.0. It is absolutely ridiculous that I cannot buy a Galaxy Note 8.0 with AT&T LTE and the phone hardware built in and working.

The reason I quit buying HTC phones is they quit making international versions that worked on AT&T the best US Wireless network. HTC made great international versions that one could buy unlocked. They worked on most 3G networks. HTC was doing extremely well. So well they got cocky.

Samsung and AT&T are now fat and cocky. The idea that they are now locking the SIMs and bootloader is a very bad. I travel overseas often. As soon as I land I buy a SIM card with lots of data. It's usually a much better deal than anyting AT&T offers here in the States. For instance, I just went to Italy and bought two SIM Cards from Wind for $53.00 total! Each SIM had 5GB of data!

AT&T further rips off their customers by not allowing tethering without an extra fee. One buys data and should be able to use that data any way he pleases. The other problem is that AT&T's ROMs stink to high heaven. On all my NOTEs, I have used stock international ROMs because they are cleaner, have better color schemes (especially for emai), etc. One thing I cannot stand is to see that stupid blue globe with the stupid AT&T chime every time I change my batter an reboot.

AT&T, you've got the best network, quit being assholes!

Samsung, you've got the best devices, don't start being jerks. Don't let AT&T tell you to strip out the FM radios and lock the bootloaders. You're big enough now. You tell AT&T how it's going to be.

I'm so upset about this I'm inclined to contact the FCC and other agencies. AT&T should not be able to dumb down devices as they have. I'm so mad I think I'm going to buy a Nokia Lumina 1520 as soon as it comes out. I love android but the 1520 is going to be one hell of a device. ASUS too will be giving Samsung a run for their money shortly.

Within a couple years, we're going to see 6" to 8" phablets running complete Windows 8.1 (not windows phone or RT) with phones built in. I'd like to see some Samsung devices, but I won't buy them with locked bootloaders, region locks, and without the FM radio.
Well said, and I agree with you wholeheartedly, in principle and in fact. Thanks for signing, by the way... One issue with your Windows Phone "Plan B" is that windows phones suck. I am not trying to be close minded or be funny, and I do not mean the hardware isn't great, and there's nothing wrong (well nothing major anyway) with Windows Phone... I just had 2 Nokias for a few weeks waiting for my Note 3. They have POTENTIAL like crazy. But I 100% doubt they will ever, ever realize that potential. There are not enough developers interested in them, and since I don't see that changing, it's a moot point. They suck. They could POTENTIALLY not suck, but it's not gonna happen. A shame. But a reality nonetheless. Now, If Samsung can catch themselves before they start sucking.... Step 1: Tell AT&T to go sh1t in a hat. Step 2: Refuse to be told what to do. Step 3: Read their own Facebook Page, where LOTS of people are going to post this link:

I am tried of carring a notebook and a big phone. You're right - Windows Phone is not there yet. I don't know if they'll make it or not. Nokia's 1520 will be very interesting. It is the first Windows Phone Phablet that has current high spec hardware and it has an awesome camera. I love Samsung stuff with the external memory, exchangeable batteries, etc. However, they need some competition. $700 plus for a bootloader locked phone is unreasonable. Asus/Google's Nexus 7 2013 is truly a fantastic device for the money - $349 with LTE. It handles a plethora of LTE frequencies. I'll bet they could have put a phone in it for $50 more.

There's no reason that someone cannot build a super high quality international LTE phone/tablet for $500 or so. During the next 12 months there's the possiblity of phablets with intel baytrail processors with international LTE bands. This is going to make the game very interesting. Someone should be able to put a full fledged copy of Windows on that hardware along with phone hardware. Such a device could really put a dent in Android and IOS. Heck, it could even dual boot to android. Wouldn't that be a killer device!

For now we need to keep the pressure on Samsung and AT&T. If I have time, I will write the FCC and my representatives on this subject. I've been wanting to do this for some time.

The current inability of ONLY the AT&T and Verizon versions Galaxy Note 2 to accept custom firmware is already dissuading some from buying this phone, and even causing others to consider returning devices that they have recently bought. Many of these people are turning to the T-Mobile version, which, incidentally works on YOUR NETWORK. Wouldn't AT&T prefer to have these people on AT&T devices?

I have just signed this, though I doubt anything would come from it.

Using my company provided note 3, I have no intentions of unlocking or rooting the device. However there needs to be the option for those who have bought it as it is now their device to do what they want with it

This is what I put.

We spend hundred and thousands of dollars for these devices every year we should have the ability to do what we want. It's like buying a car/truck, are the manufacturers going to tell you that you can only travel so far on a daily basis, or put whatever gas they want you to use, or maybe what type of oil you should use. This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen by a cell phone carrier or maker! We will no longer buy your phones if you keep this up. Look where it's taken HTC for doing that a few years ago, Samsung you're next!!!!!!! Might as well call yourself sam**** cause your company will go to **** when people stop buying regardless of how far in technology you go at the end of the day it's what us the people want think about it.

Signed, even though I have my doubts as to whether it will do any good.

If you really want a lot of signatures, get with the XDA gods and see if they will put on link on the homepage or something. Just because someone doesn't have a AT&T Note 3 doesn't mean that they don't care about our locked bootloader. Get the petition out of our small part of XDA and let everyone show support.

SmartAs$Phone, thanks for taking the time and putting this thread together!!! You got my support, I refuse to pull the trigger on the Note 3 with a locked bootloader...... I'm sure they'll fk up 4.4 and take forever to release it as always, AOSP or nothing. AT&T is about to lose me as a customer of over 15 years. Looking forward to the Nexus 5!!!
