Question.... I was gonna buy this the day I bought the phone however.... they said I would have to remove my unlimited data plan and get the 4gb plan. I was like wtf?!?! Then we got into of a debate of tethering..... long story short I got the phone left the lapdock so.... my question is if I buy this directly from att will they drop my unlimited data plan?
I am was in the same situation as you. I did not have to change my plan at all. I just had to do the tethering hack so that I could use the lapdock with 3G.

Will not open a website in Firefox on the lapdock. Works OK from the phone browser.

I created the custom APN etc but still get the warning box when I plug the phone in.

There seem to be a couple of different ways to hack it listed but no definitive instructions on how, you know how difficult these threads are to follow sometimes....

it is a pain in the a$$ to get the 3g tether to work on the laptop dock. This is what I found I personally have to do everytime I want to get 3G tether to work..

1) turn on wireless tether on my phone
2) connect it to the laptop dock, the message comes up saying I need a WiFi network and won't go away.
3)disregard that message and open on Firefox, and confirm that you are connected.
4)take phone off laptop dock and turn off wireless tether
5)put phone back in laptop dock

At that point -- my phone and laptop dock are connected on 3G and I'm ready to go! Theres no WiFi message or anything. It's a pain but I found thats how it works for me.

What do you mean by "confirm that you are connected" in step 3? For me, when I disregard the message and open FF, I can't connect to any pages.

Just found someone selling their Atrix and all accessories on craigslist. Bought their lapdock (which turned out to have been unopened still) for $100 today. Keep your eyes out and you can get lucky

No doubt you got lucky!

I found a brand new Atrix plus lapdock for $280 but turned out to be a hoax or something because just when I was about to go pick it up, the seller canceled with a lousy excuse about a kid destroying the Atrix lol. And when I asked about the lapdock he or she never answered. Weird.

I'll keep on looking though...

AT&T has the Atrix and LapDock for $300 if I buy them together. Or $250 if I get the refurbished Atrix. But I'd have to commit to a tethering plan for another $15/month.

I found a LapDock for $150 (used) and was wondering if I will be able to use it without a tethering plan (via the hack)? Just want to make sure that I can use the LapDock (without WiFi and without a tethering plan) before I buy.

Yes, you need to get the custom APN configured and it'll work fine without the tethering plan.

Use wired USB tethering instead and start the tether before you hook it up to the lapdock. No "verifying account status" BS.
