Hey there, I've been obsessing with clear cases lately to show off the blue back. So far I haven't found any with rigid feel to it. I also want the case to have raised edges on the front, which would protect the screen when I put my phone face-down.

Any suggestions? :)

None that's good enough to date.

It may take more time for the case manufacturers to realise the Xiaomi Mi 8 even exists unlike the top two brands.
In hope they'll make hybrid transparent cases, I'm keeping an eye on Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear.

Earlier this year, I purchased an OnePlus 6 (not for myself) and I also ordered a Ringke Fusion and a Spigen Ultra Hybrid so this other person can decide which is best and use the other for spare. Due to time constraints and after watching an idiotic YouTuber smacking his phone on the desk, I also purchased an Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear.

Spigen's edges seems slippery, ever conscious it'll fall out of my hand, the case fitted oaky. The Ringke Fusion seems gimmicky, it fitted better but it gives an impression it'll not protect the device when dropped.
Olixar, a relatively new company, I thought would not match the quality of the two better known brands.
To my surprise, this ExoShield fitted just perfectly, the tranparency was very clear as glass and the polycarbonate has a non scratch coating and non yellowing material but the most impressive thing of all is the edges have non slip material, it seems to want to hold my hand. This ExoShield was most impressive, difficult to describe with words.
It reminded me of my old Nexus 5 case Tech21 Impactology hybrid case (with trasluscent red/orange edges).

As I usually don't use glass screen protectors, this ExoShield will greatly help to protect the device so hopefully Olixar will make this model for the Mi 8.
I'm still waiting in hope that Olixar or Tech21 will have future offerings.

Psssssssssst. maybe if we all bombard/spam them, they'll take notice and bring out a model for Mi 8 ?

I tweeted Spigen asking for a Hybrid Crystal (?) Case, as I've used it before & they say "We'll see about that" which I think probably means "bye" so... Unless many many Mi 8 users actually care to voice their opinion I don't think they'd do anything (・へ・)

Still early days for the Western World to realise Xiaomi will become Big and with their aggressive pricing Xiaomi will eventually overtake all. Hopefully accessories suppliers will begin to supply the demand, just as OnePlus and Huawei had few quality accessories in the beginning out here in the Wild West.

What's not logical and incomprehensible is why Xiaomi doesn't have their own line of accessories. I for one am willing to pay for a quality case instead of those Chinese $1 junk (no disrespect, I'm also Chinese).

So, it does seem we need to enter Official Xiaomi Forum and stoke up some embers to recruit/entice owners to pestering.

Agree with ya. Xiaomi certainly has the brand name. I'd love that they make as many various cases for their (flagship at least) phones. I'd buy & trust those much more than the junk spam on Chinese retail websites :/

That being said, what Xiaomi is lacking right now is supply chain to penetrate western market. I truly hope for that :)

Nillkin nature tpu case is pretty thin and soft. Very similar to the soft case that comes with the MI 8.

Cafele transparent tpu case is a bit stiffer around the edges and does raise above the display.
Also looks good with the light color accents.
I'm preferring the Cafele one over stock xiaomi and the nillkin nature shell.
These AliExpress offering are so cheap that I purchased nearly all the clear models to try and all went into the bin.
They are not robust, doesn't offer a sense of security when in the hand.
I have an Olixar ExoShield Crystal Clear model for an OnePlus 6, liked it so much I purchased the same model for an iPhone and now hoping they will make the same model for the Mi 8.

Link is to a silly video review but rather humourous, @ 4:07-4:08/5:50 he hits the phone on the desk, I did that and it seems to bounce, more rubber than harder TPU material but the most impressive thing of all is the tactile non slip material.

I'd settle for a Ringke Fusion Clear or a Spigen Ultra Hybrid Crystal but given the choice the Olixar will be at the top of the list because of its edge.

The next link offers a better in depth review.

Sounds good! I honestly thought those cases with yrims are all as soft as the stock case, that why I haven't considered one yet :(

I am a big fan of imak soft clear tpu cases. Been using them for the last three phones. Easy to remove to insert a second sim.
    Don't feel hard.

Alas my order of the Imak 'Impact Protection' has arrived https://tinyurl.com/yanbog58 . Much affordable cost of purchase from TVCMALL than official Site and a flawless transaction.

Comparing to my generic transparent bumper case the Imak have a noticably thicker back and slightly more pronounced bumps but the most significant difference is the Imak has a 'lip' surrounding the Camera cutout. I was always conscious of the camera not being sufficiently protected while using the generic case. https://i.imgur.com/VdluTQB.jpg
After replacing the old $2 generic transparent case with this Imak, I actually feel secure when handling the phone. https://i.imgur.com/uyWYBbI.jpg the difference in build quality is clear.
I am most pleased with this Imak 'Impact Protection' bumper case............................................................................................................................................but but but....
this Week I also received a Spigen Air Cushion Crystal Shell for my iPhone 8. https://i.imgur.com/BKyBzcR.jpg

Although the Imak clear bumper case is perfectly serviceable, what I would consider to be the best transparent case for the Xiaomi Mi 8 ATM and I like it very much, it cannot surpass the Spigen Crystal Shell case for protection, build quality and aesthetics.

My illness continues......hopefully Spigen will have a remedy by offering a Crystal Shell for my Mi 8.

Edit for those with the same aesthetic illness, the Red Data/Sync/Charge (weaved) cable is Original Xiaomi Mi Accessory purchased from Hong Kong Causeway Bay Flagship store for HK$25, it is much more supple and most beautiful aesthetically in comparison to the included hard plasticy white cable. Shame Xiaomi doesn't include these upgraded cables like OnePlus to give a more WOW factor.

I know metal is better, I'd like a metal case too, even a metal bumper would be nicer. Anything comes to mind?

    >Metal cases

Just to reiterate on this with a little illustration....
Ever since I had a Google Nexus 4 years ago I've been longing after a similar style case to the original Nexus 4 bumper case.
    official-nexus-4-bumper-625x625.png

That one was just excellent. Perfect protection without covering the back. But it seems like noones building these anymore...all bumper frame style cases I can find are made of metal/aluminium. Which is just awful for wifi/gps/4G receiption.

Still ordered this OATSBASF Airbag Metal/TPU frame case from aliexpress for ****s and giggles.

The result from a quick scan with Wifi Analyzer:

    l0VWHBN.png

Top half of the picture is wifi signal strength and 4G receiption - 4 out of 5 bars - on my MI8 with a TPU/Silicone Case.
On the bottom half of the picture you can see the moment when the OATSBASF case was put on.
2.4Ghz wifi signal dropped almost 20dB. 5Ghz Wifi signal dropped 10dB.
4G receiption dropped from 4/5 bars to 2/5.

    tl;dr
Stay away from metal frames or cases kids!
    1
    >Metal is better

No it's not. It causes massive massive issues with Wifi/4g/GPS receiption

    Acrylic? Anti-scratch resistant?

As I'm a fuss pot, I didn't purchase because of the silver surround on the back. Still waiting for more offerings to come on the market.
As it is described to have a polycarbonate back then it's highly unlikely to be scratch resistant, however it does states it'll not become yellow over time.
I usually use 3000/5000 emery paper and then car paint polish to bring back the shine/clearness.
