It's probably att that wants the boot loader to stay locked forever cuz Samsung doesn't care.

If you want to know why AT&T and other US carriers lock bootloaders and try to keep you from rooting, look no further than this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311588

Stuff like that... 2 phones returned and onto the 3rd, with no intention of taking other people's advice... and he feels he is entitled to it since the manufacturer has money.

That's the reason I would love to see the update from someone other than ATT. I am hopeful that one of the Dev I contacted will be able to get a flashable zip for this update. In the past with all my other phones I never got the updates from ATT after I rooted my phones.

When it is available do you flash with ODIN or via custom recovery (TWRP).

I am rooted with STOCK everything at the moment. Could I just remove root, update OTA and then re-root?

I would wait for the custom recovery .zip version. You could theoretically revert to stock and update via OTA when it's ready, but there's no guarantee that you would be able to use loki to bypass the boot loader after updating. It's entirely possible that when AT&T and/or Verizon release their OTA, it patches the exploit.

Once the AT&T OTA is released, you should sit tight and be patient until people have a chance to look at the update more closely.

Also, it's likely we will see at least some of the benefits of the update filter over from other carriers any way.

Patience People. ;)

So this about phone secure boot deal didn't the original firmware also say that for our phones. I still would not patch but I don't think we should assume the update breaks Loki until confirmed.

On the contrary, I think we should assume it breaks loki until confirmed not to. By assuming it doesn't break loki, worst case, you could end up with a phone that's locked for good. If you assume it does break loki, worst case, all that happens is you wait a couple extra days. ;)

I am sure some dev will have the ota update ready for us to flash in custom recovery. Even if boot loader is locked as long you pull the boot update portion out we should be all good. But I am hoping we get a zip patched version soon after release. Bunch of smart people on xda so changes are real good.

Is it called "at&t update service"? Could not locate in running apps?

Do you mean disable ? Didn't see freeze as option, just force stop and disable

Thank for the help.
It's called AT&T Software Update, and you can find it in the list of apps in Titanium Backup.
If you are unfamiliar with Titanium Backup, I suggest you become better acquainted with it. I would never mod an android without it...

I agree.

Just wanted to keep reminding people ( not you ;) ) that it might not be a smart idea to flash back to stock so they can get AT&T's version of the OTA update until someone gets a chance to confirm it's safe.

It's also good people ( joeybear23 ) are getting the word out to freeze AT&T Update until we know more.

Freeze is only available in the Pro version.

Titanium Backup Pro should be one of the first app to get after rooting. Been using it for the longest time, worth every penny.

Don't forget to also freeze FWUpgrade and LocalFOTA as well.

I know that in the Atrix 4G threads, we had Fruitcake builds that were made once everything had been cleared to flash safely for rooted users. Is there--or will there be--something similar?
