Hi.I use an app MySudo which allows me to have up to 9 VOIP numbers. I noticed that anytime I try to make a call or receive a call on MySudo, it doesn't allow me to do so. I am unable to make outgoing calls. I get the error: "Unable to complete call. Please check your connection and try again." I do not have any MySudo connections blocked nor cell service or WiFi services blocked.

Calls work just fine on other similar apps. But for some reason with MySudo, it won't let me call while I have NetGuard turned on. Here is a video showing what it does on my status bar when trying to make a call: Pay close attention to how NetGuard seems to fade in and out and cut my 5G off or something. Update: it definitely cuts off my cell connection, but only on this app when trying to make a call...

Any help is appreciated.
Since other similar apps work, and you don't seem to block anything, this is probably a problem of the MySudo app.
Maybe it checks if the Android VPN service is running and refuses to work when this is the case.
You'll need to ask the developer of MySudo for support on this.

Ah, OK. I also use ProtonVPN (not while using NetGuard) and it works with that one. Weird. Awaiting their response.

This is the response I got from them:

"We do have many users who successfully use MySudo with a VPN, however some VPN products do not permit sufficient network flows to allow voice-over-IP (VOIP) calling to work correctly in all cases. When connected over a VPN with this issue, MySudo calls will fail to connect and time out after approximately 20-30 seconds, while MySudo messaging and email will continue to function correctly."

NetGuard doesn't use a remote VPN server.

- DNS.Google UDP --> traffic via my own dns server >> resolves : connectivitycheck.gstatic.com
- DNS.Google UDP --> traffic via my own dns server >>resolves: www.google.com

I think that Google is overriding VPN cause your app will lock all traffic incl. system apps. No private DNS on and 'always VPN' is enabled

if you have root access, you can use with Netguard an app like Invizible, who can restrict DNS at your will or to use DnsCrypt.

with that app also you can block connectivitycheck.gstatic.com, although then maybe can arise some problems.

In case of no root, the app would work with an VPN then no compatibility with Netguard. Also it has a proxy option although not tested. Maybe the proxy access could be used to connect with Netguard in some way or using a local proxy app, I don't know really.

Correction: it works with Netguard without root :

Hello everyone.
I switched from my pixel 4xl to pixel 6a now. Installed netguard as usual and experience serious problems:
- Phone calls were directly send to mailbox if on wifi calling, but get out if I call someone. If netguard is turned off, calls coming through and so did on mobile network.
- when on the go and networks changes (eg. 5G, LTE, 3G...), internet connection won't establish and I need to turn netguard off and on again.

settings that were changed after install:
- change Hosts file
- setup a white list approach, so every app notify me and than i say, whats going outside or not and when (screen on, all time...).
- change the validation site to my email provider to get rid of www.google.com
- block connections w/o VPN.

I checked the settings on my pixel 4 and 6a to compare, but even if they are aligned, problems still occure. As far as i tried, the problem to me seems the app itself. When turned off, everything works like charme. Maybe there is another workaround to see what's the problem, but therefore I also need some input from you guys.

The phone already got the update for Android 13 and it's running grapheneOS. I updated the google system before I flashed the custom OS. No problems occure when installing grapheneOS.

regards

Something is blocked which shouldn't be blocked, but I don't know what.
Start with disabling ad blocking.

Ok yes, traffic filtering is blocking my incoming phone calls. Changed back to the original used on pixel 4, error occurs again. Then I changed to a smaller blocking list, rather than the ultimate and it works.
Through out the days I'll test the changes in networks that are coming while on the go.

The default list provided by the app blocks the traffic incoming. So did also the more complex lists by SteveBlack. The one that's working is the BlueGo by energized. Just someone run into the same problems.

thx for your help, i hope i can now enjoy/use my phone as regular companion again.

regards

But the same list was in use on the other phone and didn't cause issues?

correct. and today i faced even w/ the other smaller list a "cut off" when i was on the go again. So it looks like just a short solution.
couldn't test it really on WiFi as my ISP had some trouble again in my area.
That looks somewhat similar to my problem that I never solved: if VoLTE is enabled, Netguard enabled, phone locked and both WLAN and mobile data turned off - then incoming calls ring once and are rejected/dropped. Any other possible combination works: either turning on WLAN (even if none is available), disabling Netguard, having phone unlocked, outgoing calls. Tried with two phone apps and get exactly the same problem.

Hi forum,
ich have internet connection issues with the MySKODA app (version 5.2.4, 3.9.2022) on my Redmi Note 8 Pro (MIUI 12.5.2, Android 11, no root) with NetGuard 2.298. At start/logon the MySKODA app says "internet not available" (and small below "ID: NO_INTERNET_CONNECTION") although there's internet available. Of course the MySKODA app is enabled in NetGuard (both WLAN and mobile data).

It seems that the MySKODA app uses a (still blocked) system service to check the internet connection. If I disable NetGuard, the MySKODA app works as expected, but this is definitely not the solution I'm looking for...

Does anybody know which service is missing? My currently enabled system services (listed in red) are the following:
  • com.android.providers.media
  • Downloads (2x)
  • MTP-Host
  • root
  • Sounds ("Töne") (related to MTP-Host)
All other apps work as expected with this enabled system services, even e.g. the Powerpass app by Skoda (I don't use Google).

Regards, cpschnuffel

I'm still getting this problem. What could be causing it? I get it on Wifi and mobile data. Sometimes it acts fine on mobile, but then I go on wifi and it starts going crazy.

Hello,
In Parameters, Advanced options, swipe down, you can set the DNSs.
Remember, you MUST set the two addresses.

Hello I have strange phenomenon. When checking on netguard.ne/test, I can see blocking is correct when I am on mobile network. But when I switch to wifi, I get message that blocking is not working. I have bot types of networks configured exactly same. Where could be the problem? I have LineageOS 19 (Android 12). Jan

Netguard & Offline Voice typing.

When using Netguard, google offline voice typing doesn't work.
I will try to explain. Pixel 3, Android 12.
When online, voice typing connects to google to do the voice recognition and the keyboard stays. When you are offline it uses the downloaded voice pack and you get some options where the keyboard was. That works fine without Netguard.
The issue is that when you have no internet connection & Netguard is enabled, for some reason Voice Typing insists on trying to connect to google and the errors with can't connect.
Disable Netguard and the offline Voice Typing works.

When there is no data or wifi connection, Netguard says it is blocking all traffic (even though there can't be any internet traffic). I assume Voice Typing sees the Netguard routing as a internet connection and tries to do online voice typing and fails to connect. I would of expected it to revert to offline mode but doesn't. This seems to be poor design on googles part, I would expect it to revert to offline mode if it can't connect to the server for any reason.

Strangely, if I turn on aeroplane mode, it works fine.

Although this seems to be more of a google issue than Netguard, I thought I would share this in case other were having similar issues. It would be nice if there was a fix, other than disabling Netguard as I sometime forget to re-enable.

Cheers
