hmmm never been accused of being a troll. i realize I should have never posted this. Just to be clear. I wasn't in bootloader when it happened.I was in android. I did step 4..(install su.) when it was finished I went into recovery to check and got the red triangle I stated that it reverted and restarted by itself and I just went and rooted via a different method.( github joshdew vid ) I tried to say that I didn't blame the Op or his 1 click... that I was posting just what happened to ME and that it probably wouldn't happen to anyone else. I even apologized if I was snide in my first post. I have had many smartphones and have never had an issue rooting. Shield was my only hiccup and I started all of this asking for help.
Just saw your post... Sorry dude, skipped over it.

I didn't call you a troll just was speculating. Yes, It won't happen to anyone else as long as they follow the directions for MY method.

Thanks

Thanks dude. Had mine unlocked and rooted with version 2.0. Now if only someone would work on an OC kernel that works with the latest update.
Thank YOU!

I am slowly but surely working on an OC kernel... And maybe a Rom.... IDK XD

Between school and stuff it is getting kind of hard. :D

Won't unlock bootloader

I can't seem to get past the part where it tells me to hit enter after the Shield is in the bootloader. I just get waiting for device

Tryed 4 times now with no luck, and I tryed different usb ports to make sure that wasn't it. What am I missing?

Edit: in the Device Manager I seem to be missing a fastboot driver. Where can I find that driver?

First, open the Toolkit. Then select the Driver Install Help Option (Option 10) and watch the video by wwjoshdew, He's AWESOME!

I already found his video from a google search, And installed the drivers. The problem is my Windows 8 desktop somehow doesn't have the fastboot drivers after installing the drivers like in the video. Not sure why but that's whats stopping me from using my desktop.

I have never been able to use my desktop, And I was just hoping I would be able to use my desktop after going to Win 8 but it still wants to fight me :(

Lucky I have my good old Alienware M11X R1 laptop that never lets me down when it comes to unlocking and rooting my devices. When I plunged the Shield into it it found the drivers on it's own, And I was able to unlock the bootloader with no problems. It's redownloading all of my apps right now, And when it's done ill root

Ok now i'm trying to root, And everything is working fine until I go to install the supersu.zip.

Then I get this...

Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
Installation aborted

Edit: I went and installed SuperSU from google play and I have root. So i'm not 100% what happened, But I still got there in the end lol.

Try re-installing your Recovery, this happened to me as well. I don't know the logistics of the error but re-installing the recovery worked.

Dude, I flashed this manually using "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and it kept flashing the screen after choosing reboot recovery. I verified to make sure the MD5 matched @agrabren's MD5, and it did match. So I flashed it again, it kept flashing. The flashes would happen quickly and it would go super dark, then gray. Super dark, then gray. So on and son on. I was about to try the other custom recovery.

I decided to use your toolkit and it installed CMW recovery. I chose "reboot recovery" in bootloader, thinking the screen would just keep flashing until I held the Shield button for 10 seconds and forced it to turn off. It went to CWM recovery! I don't know what was happening different, but your toolkit flashed custom recovery just fine. I'm sick and without my editing machine right now (it died and I'm waiting on it to get fixed), but a video will come. I have MANY Shield videos planned, I just need my computer back.

But after using the toolkit, SUCCESS! :)

YEP!!! I had the same issue as well.. (I tried manual first because I like inputting the commands myself lol) I kept quiet to see if anyone would have it as well.... This is interesting and I will be looking into it further.

Thanks and Sorry about the PC.... Mine has been having issues as well and I am waiting on a System Replacement from Alienware.

Hi there,

Sorry but after reading it's not entirely clear to me. If I just want to root my shield do I have to unlock bootloader first?

I'm planning to root in a few hours to install the sixaxis app to play in front the TV wirelessly with a ps3 controller.

Thanks in advance.

Edit:

I see it's necessary. Sorry for asking.
