You can also reconfigure xenforo to work properly on the bromite & brave browser. People shouldn't have to switch browsers for certain sites. More people are getting attracted to multiple privacy focused browsers & do not want to have to be forced to use mainstream one to browse a site. Most likely it's a script blocker because as I said i'm logged in I just don't see it until I go to a thread.

With that being said those 2 browsers I mentioned are built on chronium if that helps. I didn't know XDA has a mobile app to browse the forums is the app it's own or is it tapatalk to browse the forum?

I've uploaded a video so you can see whats happening.

FYI, IDK if the clip was re-uploaded but in Win 10, FF I can see the video in line (playing underneath post text) and download it.

@Moxiipc, from the video it seem as if you never get fully logged in as the log-in button is visible much of the time. It is still possible to view posts when not logged in but, can you actually create new posts or edit existing posts at any point in the process? If you can do that while the UI is suggesting login then this is strange indeed. In any event, testing other means of access as previously suggested, alternate methods with minimal complicating factors, might help you distinguish between issues with the account or issues with the network or issues with blockers on the device.

I tried again; and again with Chrome. Still nothing.
When I "Reply", there's a clause
Code:
[ATTACH type="full"]5850753[/ATTACH]
but I don't know how to turn "5850753" into a full URL to try to access it directly.

This is odd. I was also able to see the video live as embedded in the Naked Browser Pro on android and downloaded from there as well. Back to the desktop to get a link if possible. The video is embedded in the post but as a whole does not behave as a linked object, for instance one which you can right click to copy hyperlink, but the individual video playback toolbar buttons do behave in that manner so here is the link captured from the play button.

D'oh. Of course.

This happens on the brave browser as well I think this is a chromium issue.

This is a strange indeed. I am out of ideas, reduced to nothing more than notion that something must be perpetually deleting a cookie or a credential... but what?

I'm not sure but I downloaded regular chrome & firefox to test. This also happens on chrome but not firefox. I tried firefox lite in f-droid & this does not happen on that either.

I was able to play it in Firefox under Windows.
I watched it three times. This is no way to communicate with me.
I caught that there is a "Log in" link on most pages, but the pages with no "Log in" do not make it clear to me that he is logged in, just that there is no easy "Log in" link. (In my browsers, both tablet and desktop, the top line of the page has my name on the right, with "message" and "notification" icons to the right of my name.)

What is unclear about the video? As you can see I am logged in. You see this when I go to threads thats why it disappears. Thats why when I tap on login you see the broken msg because I am logged in.

As I confirmed this is a chromium issue because this does not happen on a firefox based browser.

Please don't take this as a complaint or criticism but the video, as is the case with many screen capture videos of device issues, may not have seemed as clear to others who did not share the experience you reported. Add to that some problems downloading the file and then someone is viewing the file when the notes aren't so fresh in their mind. I relied much more on your description than the video, but the video did add information.

It sounds like you have found the common thread your issue, Chrome. Browsers are the most likely first suspect in cases like which is why I suggested alternate browsers. In your case of the logging issue this does not provide a full answer but it does make more clear a possible mechanism since it is all within one browser or one browser type. So network and device wide potential causes can probably be eliminated and instead - focus on cookies and blockers and perhaps bad coding or something else in the app which is causing the credentials to be deleted.

It may also be worth noting that it was Chrome which had a problem downloading the video.

I have made some of my suggestions here:

I don't agree with your request (2)
"In this regard, it would be nice to have a forum for each version of Android, and then a sub-forum per brand. An issue with a particular version of Android will affect all devices, especially those that are from the same brand. "

IMO, and by my experience, a particular device was originally released with the one version of Android (like A11).and it later receives two or more major upgrades, like A12 and A13

But certain topics like its hardware characteristics and potential issues with (like problems with a fingerprint, problem with the virtual proximity sensor, etc) remain common and some workaround that was posted for an earlier version of ROM may still apply.
Hence they are not related to Android version or brand, but really per device

Then, there are also questions and discussions about the 'best ROM' that generally do not limit to the particular Android version

Etc. Also, guides about unlocking Bootloader, rooting, using and installing a particular custom Recovery might be common

On the other side ok - there are also issues that are common but not only or not that much for the particular Android version but to the vendor's modifications like MIUI versions for Xiaomi phones

Besides, how would you reorganize existing threads where the posts are mixed, related to the same device but different versions of Android (MIUI in the case of Xiaomi phones)

My two cents

When Samsung releases OneUI 6 based on Android 14 later this year, any issues with it would be seen on S23 Ultra, S23 Plus, S23, S22 Ultra, S22 Plus, S22, S21 FE, and a whole lot of devices that get OneUI 6. Same logic applies to all the smartphone brands.

It is far easier to discuss issues related to the OS version in one sub-forum than spread it out over multiple sub-forums, which will also result in many duplicate posts for the same issue. Plus, users watching device specific sub-forums may not be aware of issues on their device if they haven't been discussed in those sub-forums.

Then, there are also questions and discussions about the 'best ROM' that generally do not limit to the particular Android version
Usually most people look for the latest Android versions in their custom ROMs. It is one of the main reasons why people install a custom ROM.

Etc. Also, guides about unlocking Bootloader, rooting, using and installing a particular custom Recovery might be common
This is the only reason why a device specific sub-forum is useful. For pretty much everything else, a sub-forum as suggested above would be more useful.

As with reorganizing or redesigning the website, one must make use of Filters. It is the best way to organise and manage everything.

I gave you the reasons I see in my previous posts.
That's my opinion and this is yours

Don't have time to link then posts proving for devices like Lisa (Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE), davincie (Xiaomi Mi 9T) and similar subforums, related to devices I have/had and what I monitor and participated (hence knowing what and how was discussed)

Again, I gave my opinion, and I will no more reply to the quotes about the same

Good luck

Thank you for your time. Your reasons were not convincing enough to stick to the current implementation though. There is scope for improvement as suggested above.

Alerts stop from time to time

About every 6-8 weeks alerts for threads that should be watched just stop. The other threads continue to alert when there are changes. So far this happend especially for the following threads:

[APP][2.2+] MiXplorer v6.x Released (fully-featured file manager)

MiXplorer: Q&A and FAQ (User Manual)

Maybe this happens for threads with a lot of activity...

I'm using only (mobile) web browsers for xda-developers, so this might be different when using the app. But I've found a similar issue here:

By my experience (using XDA app), notifications stop coming if I ignore then and do not open/read that thread, its new posts for several days

Then if I open that thread, read the latest, then the notifications start coming again

For me it's not bad - I'm subscribed to some threads (like that MiX) but if there are too many and to often posts, it becomes boring and waste of time. I let the notifications 'pause' as above, until I have time to read and catch-up and continue to following

Hmm, that would explain why this happens and would even be consistent. And now, I cannot tell anymore if this was the reason for missing alerts for me. I'll try to test it.

However, this would not solve my problem.

Pinging @Ultramanoid - just in case you want to add something.

On 3/11/2021 at around 10am New York time, XDA will be upgrading our forum software to XenForo 2.2 which brings a bunch of new improvements, like a new thread preview tool, a Device Inventory tool to show off which phones you use, a most-thanked widget in every thread to easily spot the most important posts, plus a host of other new feature you can read about here. Not every feature of 2.2 will be available/active on XDA from day one, but we'll roll more things out soon as we settle in.

Please use this thread to post about bugs, issues, or overall comments. If reporting a bug or issue, be sure to tell us about your configuration (device, browser, OS) and the steps to reproduce the issue. Screenshots help!

In addition, later today we'll be updating the XDA app to work with 2.2. :cowboy:

    Known Bugs/Regressions:
    1. Advanced forum user max title length is too short, truncating them (e.g. "Senior Recognized Developer / Recognized Contribut"). Fixed 06/18 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...d-comments-here.4245677/page-16#post-85203961
    2. Long forum names are truncated (e.g. "Android Software and Hacking General [Developers O").
    3. Thanks/Likes counts are reduced for most users, sometimes dramatically, seemingly from Aug 29 - Dec 2; possibly related to posts reverting to older versions.
    4. Various old forum emojis aren't mapped to new unicode ones, and ones in old posts that do exist (e.g. :cowboy:) don't display.
    5. Broken redirects from old links for many threads/posts.
    6. Disabling Alert in Preferences forces Mobile App Push enabled, one should be able to disable both.
    7. "Unfurl"ed URL links to posts sometimes show a preview of the OP instead of the correct post (e.g. [URL unfurl="true"]https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/welcome-to-xda-2021.4197018/post-84073623[/URL]

      )
    8. Missing colored/underlined user names to denote advanced forum users (e.g. Moderators/Admins and Recognized Contributors/Themers/Developers). Fixed 12/14 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...d-comments-here.4245677/page-28#post-86097881
    9. Posts containing only quotes and no new text shouldn't be allowed.
    10. Ability to subscribe to an entire forum is missing for some forums.
    11. XDA Wiki pages are missing.
    12. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] functionality is broken and pics lost.
    13. Shell scripts are detected and rejected as attachments, even if renamed as .txt files.
    14. Search "this category" option never shows any results when used.
    15. Recognized Developers can't moderate their own threads anymore.
    16. Missing/broken legacy devices in Device Inventory (e.g. Galaxy Nexus is listed when you search but fails when you attempt to add it).
    17. Missing setting to receive emails for mentions and/or quotes.
    18. Reaction Score doesn't match between profile and "All" under Reactions Received.
    19. DevDB secondary thread contributors have completely lost access to updating these threads.

    👆

Truncated special titles appear to be getting fixed today! 🙌
Yay, not that I want to send me flowers but I send flowers to myself still 😜, there were 66 accounts to manually edit and then inform members about this change. Yea there were not other solutions than doing it manually.... 😭

I'm happy to have contributed to this and make disappear the truncated tiles. We have 50 char maximum allowed for it so it was not easy to find a good and consistent compromise for everyone and every case.

BTW, no one forced me, I was fine to volunteer for this task.

    @svetius @bitpushr @MikeChannon @the_scotsman @Audentio

Can you please add .tar.gz, .tgz, .tar.xz, .txz, etc. to the accepted attachment extension list? I'm trying to upload AIK-Linux v3.8 here and this is a bit of an annoying last minute snag. :p

Please also look into allowing uploading simple shell scripts again. These used to be allowed at least when renamed to .sh.txt but currently they still get detected and blocked.

This is a developers and power users forum, you would think these things would already be allowed! :)
    (y)I have added those extenstions.
