CM 10.2 Issues

I took the plunge with the 8/15 SD install of 10.2 on my HD+. While nice, it did have a habit of rebooting nightly into the Nook stock ROM.

Then I installed 8/22 on the SD (just flashed the ROM over top of 8/15, so I was able to keep my apps**), which seems to have fixed the rebooting problem. Really happy with it.

The usual caveats apply: Kindle app doesn't work, location only works with wifi toggle trick. REI Visa app doesn't work for some reason (works on other 4.3 systems and on stock ROM, didn't work on 8/15 either).

Some other strange things:

1. If I reboot (now an infrequent occurrence), the wallpaper reverts to the green thing it started up with when I initially installed CM.
2. Sometimes the wallpaper freezes and reverts. I am using Nova launcher, with one of the live wallpapers. Maybe I should go back to Trebuchet ?

Really pleased with 10.2 outside of these quirks. Hope the feedback helps !

** -- is this the right way to upgrade the SD install, or is it better to reformat the card entirely ?

I am running CM10.1 20130817 Nightly and can pair my anker ultra-slim Bluetooth keyboard without a problem. However it does not work on any CM10.2 nightly that has been released thus far.

When attempting to pair I am able to enter the six digit pairing pin and hit enter on the keyboard and it is recognized by the tablet by closing the pin pairing window. On 10.1 the Bluetooth icon in the status bar lights up at this point, but on 10.2 it does not and I can't use the keyboard for input even though it seems to have recognized the pin being entered. Any ideas how to fix this or why it's happening?

Thanks, I knew about that trick, I just wanted to report that it is still not fixed without using the wifi trick. :) I am hoping one of the nightly builds will fix this. It worked great in CM 10.1.
Got it. It worked. Thanks

Truth or Consequences
I've wasted so much time trying to get to a stable system with any of the CM builds for the HD+, and now that it's not boot-looping every time it goes to sleep, I discover that the one thing I wanted to do--read my current Kindle Whispersync book--does not work. Also, 10.2 seems to have even more incompatibilities, including the one game I actually play sometimes, Zen Pinball HD.

I'm thinking my next move is taking the HD+ back to stock, which worked fine for me for weeks after they added Play. The CM UI is nearly as gimped as stock with the lack of Tablet UI, anyway. The only things I'm giving up are Recent Apps and Google Voice/GrooveIP. I do hope development continues, but I need a daily driver.
verygreen had some very stable 10.1 builds before it started going nightly with CM. CM's last 10.2 nightly also seemed very stable to me as well.

My 8/26 10.2 was stable for a day or two, then came down with the reboots again. And it's not just stability; the CM 10+ builds don't have a decisive advantage over stock. CM's file structure is a pain in the ass (Google's doing, I know), the notification and navigation bars are only a slight improvement without Tablet UI, and no magazine app on the market stands up to the HD+ native reader IMO. Right now I'm more interested in the hobbies I pursue on my tablet (mainly ebooks, audiobooks, comics, and magazines) than having the tablet be a hobby unto itself.

The only things I miss from CM/JB are the recent apps interface and the lock screen. Otherwise, I'm using the same launcher and all the apps I actually use on my tablet are working. The Zen Pinball issue I mentioned before, though, seems to be on the app's end--it's incompatible on stock now, too, where it was working on both stock and CM 10.1 a couple months ago.

CM10.2 Nighlies have been awesome for me. The only problem I had was that the Chrome app crashed constantly so i just started using UC browserHD. Otherwise its fine.

I haven't had that problem, but it would be a dealbreaker. I'm not big on mobile browsing, but syncing with my desktop Chrome and remembering my last session are the two things that make it useful. Otherwise, Maps comes in handy a lot more often than the browser, though again syncing with my desktop searches is a big factor. Honestly though, all of that applies to my phone more than my tablet. The tablet is a reader and media platform more than anything. It's not a "mobile device" for me except insofar as a book or magazine in my bag would be a "mobile device." It was different when I was using public transportation, but now the tablet is mainly a multimedia reading device for (mainly) home use. In that role, stock just seems more robust despite the lack of modern finishes.

I was also having problems with Chrome. I removed updates and it was OK again (that option is in Apps in Settings). Then someone suggested I try Chrome Beta and that's been super. I disabled Chrome in App Settings and use Chrome Beta exclusively now.

Anybody getting screen goes black for a split second then back again, then again maybe 8 seconds later, then ok, then again. Lasts for awhile after a boot maybe 5 minutes then it doesn't do it anymore.

Even with the SuperSU package linked in the first post, I'm still having issues with SU misbehaving in terms of how environmental variables are handled. In 10.1 I can pass pretty much whatever I want into the su session, and it behaves quite similarly to su running on a linux desktop. In 10.2, I can't pass anything, even with the --preserve-environment flag (which shouldn't even be necessary, since I'm not using -l.) SuperSU doesn't seem to improve the situation much, except for making su usable in the shell again. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I in the minority of people that wants to pass things like PATH and ZDOTDIR into my su session? Is this a security feature of Android 4.3, or just a quirk with SU at this point?

I've tried some test cases to illustrate this behavior:

CM 10.1 20130813
Code:
[[email protected] /]% su -v
13 com.android.settings
[[email protected] /]% export TESTVAR=1234
[[email protected] /]% su
[[email protected] /]# echo $TESTVAR
1234
CM 10.2 20130815 w/ SuperSU linked in OP
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ su -v
1.51:SUPERSU
[email protected]:/ $ export TESTVAR=12345
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # echo $TESTVAR

[email protected]:/ # exit
3|[email protected]:/ $ su --preserve-environment
[email protected]:/ # echo $TESTAR
CM 10.2 20130815 without SuperSU had the same result, but had really broken output.
CM 10.2 20130817 has the same behavior as the previous nightly.
FYI, SuperSu version 1.55 seems to have fixed the issue, I tried tried echoing $TESTVAR with CM 10.2 20130901 unofficial/SD and got 1234

Yea mine used to do that. I haveee no idea what made it stop. If it did indeed stop entirely. I've only had the nook for a week now.

Were you plugged in while the flickering was happening? I've seen this happen with the different nook HD+.

Yes and yes.
32g running 8/12 CM 10.1. Started today with it plugged in. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Stay Awake while plugged in setting in Dev Options.

FWIW, I tried CM10.2, several of the nightlies, had basically the same problems with all of them, so I am back at CM10.1.

- CM10.2 is noticeably slower and more "jerky" than CM10.1
- constant boot loops when rebooting unless I boot into recovery and wipe the cache... this was a deal breaker for me
- some of my games, such as the one I actually play most often (Pool Bar HD), do not work on CM10.2 and work fine on 10.1

I agree with your perspective and still use the final 10.1 nightly as standard. Another issue is Flash does not function as well with 10.2. Some browsers work better than others, but hit and miss. The sweet spot (for me at least) MIGHT be the final 10.1 nightly with 402M heap size and 16K color depth set. More tests tonight to see if this mix really pans out with more use. Key being: Lag mitigation.

As far as 16K color, I can not tell the difference with image quality or shading degrees, so wonder if it really does change the depth to 16K and if it really does lower the load to the GPU. I am a tad skeptical about this, but do know the previous gpu drivers caused issues with16K.

Dear developers,

I noticed that I cannot get network despite connected to a iphone 3gs bluetooth hotspot which did fine on cm10.1. Sometimes, the bluetooth internet access cannot even check so i downgrade to 10.1 currently. Navigating 10.2 is pretty smooth though.

Thanks. :)
