CM7 - Automatic Backlight help

Can anyone explain the Automatic backlight options in the latest CM7 updates in an easy to follow way?
I have looked at the options and find the descriptions and setting very confusing and at the moment I find that the touch button lights are not actually working as they were before the new options were introduced.

I want the lights back as its a bit of a pain guessing where the buttons are at night

Display/Automatic backlight/use custom/edit other levels...

Buttons - I used the same numbers for buttons as for the screen
