CM7 Q&A

Hey everyone...

I have a 'strange' issue and would love your inputs and help. I installed the B-N stopgap version of CM7.1 for the Atrix and its amazing. Has been the best thing I did to my phone.

Then I flashed faux's 1.3Ghz kernel (0.20 for CM7.1) and noticed that my phone now has a new setting entry under Language and Keyboard: Built-in keyboard (see img).

I don't mind this new entry, but now CM7 thinks I have a built-in keyboard and the keyboard is not pulled up automatically as it used to be (on the stock CM kernel) whenever text input is required. (like creating a new text, searching,etc...). I don't mind either the additional step in touching the input field to show the keyboard, but I though someone can help me figure out a solution.

I did all my installations after wiping cache, dalviks, partitioning data and resets to fact. settings.

Thank you!
Ran into the same thing with faux's stock enhanced. One of the developers on the bug tracker said it was an issue with the kernel and faux would be fixing it in a future release. If you flash the kernel immediately after installing CM7 you also get prompted to slide out the physical keyboard upon the initial start up.

Some people seem to be runnings faux's kernels without the "disappearing" keyboard that you described above, but I always have this problem (even if I boot into the OS, reboot, and then flash the kernel).

FWIW, I've been running the stock CM7 kernel since Ba2tF came out, and haven't noticed any fall off in performance or battery life.

Thanks for the quick reply! I will monitor the bug tracker for updates then.

Yes, exactly. And this isn't a typical prompt after an installation, at least for phones with only a soft keyboard.

Yup tried that as well just now and I still get the prompt to slide the keyboard out.

That probably won't do any good since this is a bug with faux's kernel. They only confirmed the issue and said they passed the info along to faux, and that he would be fixing it.

I would keep an eye on his thread instead. He posted a teaser pic of his phone running a new 0.2.2 kernel, so hopefully that will fix this problem.

Alright, will do. Yeah faux seems fast in releasing updates. My phone is running great with his kernel except for this keyboard issue. Btw, talking about keyboards, is there a way to increase the default key sizes on CM7 for the Atrix? (beside getting a new soft keyboard from the market, which I do have one, but I like the stock kb...) ?

Thanks again.

External or internal sdcard? If you are talking about the external do this:

Format the card to fat 32 put it back in your phone. If that doesn't do the trick,
format it with no filesystem or NTFS. I had a similar problem, the sd card of my Atrix couldn't be mounted.

For both external and internal do this:
If all this doesn't do the trick, in CWM boot manager, mount the sdcard from there (make sure you choose the correct sdcard internal vs external).

Have a look at this thread if you still have issues:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118111&page=3

This is assuming you checked the correct settings under Storage in CM7.
Hope that helps.

I'm experiencing a number of battery issues...

I've been leaving my phone unplugged over night to see how it drains. One night I'll lose 10% or so, then the next night it'll drop 30-40% in the same amount of time. It seems when it drains like this, "suspend" (linux process, according to watch dog) is running out of control. Is this suspend issue a general Android problem?

Secondly, my battery never shows 100%. I've done all the recommendations that have between suggested to other users (the battery pull deal, bat fix, collaboration etc), and they only work temporarily. Every time
re-charge, it stops at 97% (at 4200mv)

overall the battery life seems fine. I get 2-3 hours of screen time over about 12-14 hours. I love CM7 too much to want to switch back to another ROM, these issues are just baffling me

10-15% overnight is very acceptable. 30% is not. But without knowing which kernel and setup you have its hard to pinpoint the issue. The wakelock has been discussed to death in other threads using CM7. I am using CM7 B-N for the Atrix along with faux's 1.3 kernel and I have an awesome battery life. 20+ hours with moderate use. 16+ with heavy use.

The fix that worked for me is charging via the usb cable or charging when the phone is off, via the regular wall charger.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not complaining about the 10% drop. That's great. And from what I've read there is really no solution to the suspend wake lock.

Fwiw i'm on the stock kernel, running Ba2tF, with a screen off profile for 312 max in set CPU.

ok, I have read a few hundred posts and I just dont seem to get it :(
I have "use internal storage" selected. As I understand it that should mount the internal phone stoarage (of which there is more than enough) at /sdcard

However I dont ever have anything mounted at /sd-ext
My external sd card (32gb) gets mounted at /mnt/emmc and everytime I try to copy files to it (tried through usb and using es file explorer over wifi to my NAS) they disappear.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, or just dont get? I would think that the exgternal card would get mounted at /sd-ext. I even went into terminal and created a symbolic link from /mnt/emmc to /sd-ext which disappeared at next reboot.

Motoblur:
Internal SD = sdcard
External SD = sdcard-ext

CM7:
Internal SD = emmc
External SD = sdcard
Sdcard-ext is not used at all

Mounting internalsd as sdcard makes the externalsd get mounted as emmc.

Continued Car Dock Issues

I just read over my prior posts, and they are not complete. (Sorry about that)

I loaded CM initially on my Atrix and loved it (still do). The car dock worked just fine. When I placed the phone in the dock, it gave me a choice between two or three car home apps I had on the phone. It charged as well. This was the case for about a week.

Two days ago, I noticed the phone did not charge and did not indicate it was docked. I uninstalled all car dock home apps except Google's, and the phone once again charges in the dock, but it still does not indicate it is docked.

Anyone else experience this? Any help to correct it?

Sorry if this has been answered already, I tried searching but you know what searching is like here!

Anyway, when I go into Settings -> Storage, I see SD card total space of 10.71 GB, and Internal storage total space of 1.97 GB. My question is: where is all the other space? Shouldn't it add up to 16 GB?

I don't have an SD card so I set the option to use internal storage. Is that the reason?

Yes I get this, but that doesn't answer:

So why are files copied to /mnt/emmc disappearing, and why is my symbolic link disappearing?

I assume it is only reading /data and /mnt/sdcard and displaying those.

The rest of the memory is consumed by the system 300+M, cache 630M, etc. When I add all mine up I get ~2.1G of misc partitions, 2G for data and 10.7G for /mnt/sdcard for a total of 15G add in a few partitions I might have missed, parts of memory marked as bad, FAT tables, blah blah blah and you have the whole 16G

2 ways possibly-

Cyanogenmod settings/ Performance Settings/ Lock home in memory (That can force portrait)

Cyanogenmod settings/ Display/ tweak with those options

Or your launcher.. Are you using ADW? Because that could be the culprit too..

Bootlooping constantly

So I recently rooted, unlocked the boot loader, installed CWM and all that, then I went to install CM7. After I did so, it got the common boot looping problem, where it will stay at the Motorola screen saying unlocked in the top corner. "No big deal" I said. I just followed the instructions on what to do if this happens. After following those instructions multiple times, I am still getting the boot loop problem. Am I just missing a step or is something just being buggy?
