CM7 Q&A

So I recently rooted, unlocked the boot loader, installed CWM and all that, then I went to install CM7. After I did so, it got the common boot looping problem, where it will stay at the Motorola screen saying unlocked in the top corner. "No big deal" I said. I just followed the instructions on what to do if this happens. After following those instructions multiple times, I am still getting the boot loop problem. Am I just missing a step or is something just being buggy?
What recovery are you using? I assume you wiped both caches and data before flagging CM7?

CM7 Nightly's, Screen wont stay awake in Car Dock

Ever since I started using the the CM7 nightlys, the screen wont stay on when in the car dock and charging, it has in all the previous versions including the Atrix CM Ba2tF build, but Nightly's #1 trough #20 none of them will.

Iv looked around in the settings but don't see anything that changes the behavior.

Is it a bug, intended or am I overlooking a setting.

If you mean what recovery program, Clockwork Recovery Mod. And yes, I did wipe all of that and still getting the boot loop.
i mean, are you using Romracer's CWM or Rom Manager's CWM?

if you are using Tenfar's CWM, that is your problem. re-read through the CM7 OP carefully and make sure you are following EVERY part of each step.

I have a few questions:

In cyanogenmod settings -> input settings -> long-press menu settings, I want to be able to set it to open the app drawer. Is there any way to do that? Either a setting I missed or an app I can install would be fine.

I can't seem to get the "slide notification bar to change brightness" setting to work. I am not sure whether I am doing it wrong or whether it just doesn't work. Does anybody know of any quirks with this, tricks to get it to work, or videos of how to use it properly? Might it be incompatible with Go Launcher, or conflicts with having the brightness button in the notification bar?

Also, do you know the API that the CM7 dock app uses to determine what music players can be opened? My music player is not shown on the list and I want to request that the developer of the music player implement that API, but I don't know which one to request.

Cannot mute outgoing calls until connected

CM7 is fantastic and this isnt really a bug because I am sure very few people do this but here is my issue: I want to engage the "mute" button before the outgoing call has connected. This was an option in the stock ROM and with Gingerblur and I loved it, but sadly, now it is gone with CM7. And dont ask me why I want to do this lol I have my reasons. :)

Hmm, I don't know then. What worked for me, was:
In romracer's cwm...
Wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache
partition, wipe data/factory reset, install zip- Ba2tF, reboot.

Ah, wait, I just realized you said did I wipe BEFORE flashing, which I did not. I wiped data and all that after.

Check the settings, look closer to the bottom, it should have something about the brightness levels to use.. I had the same problem with the ring profile change button, nothing was selected so it did nothing.

What kernel (and version) is the latest stable version using?

Edit:
It seems as though my phone stays awake (even through the night with no alarms on), watchdog hasn't been able to find any rogue apps, but a total on time of 22 hours is not good enough is it?
I was able to go for almost 48 hours on froyo stock.
Is it the kernels fault?

Google Apps on CM 7.1

Hello there!

Yesterday I installed Ba2tF and had a great experience so far... except that I cannot install Google Apps.

I tried to download it from Rom Manager. It gets downloaded successfully, ask me to reboot, I press the volume button, it gets into Recovery and execute some scripts, I have no time to see any error message and then, after reboot, no change, no trace of Google Maps or Gmail.

I also tried to download it as a Zip and flash the zip, it looks like the same script run and the same result: none.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Do you have the Market? If you have Market then you can just install Maps, Gmail, etc from there. It sounds like the zip was flashed successfully though so I'm not sure why Maps, Gmail etc aren't there.

Also you shouldn't need to press the volume button if you're installing it from Rom Manager. It should require no user interaction whatsoever, other than pressing "ok" in Rom Manager. Not sure if this is significant or not...

scrchngwsl,

Thanks! I indeed have access to the Market but I discarded that as I couldn't find Google Maps on it. I realized it could be due to a local market issue so I tried using Market Enabler to switch to AT&T market (us) and Orange Market (denmark), sounded like a good bet, and couldn't find Google Maps. I wasn't very creative, just typed maps and google maps.

I tried again from ROM Manager and this time, the phone did reboot, get into CWM and install the things by itself... and no change after reboot. I was really hopeful for a moment :(
