I think not. Unless you enjoy having to turn your TV on its side to see the image properly. Landscape mirroring is being worked on and I am hoping it shows up in next release of CM7.

Had a question that I didn't want to ask in the development thread. I (like many I am sure) am slightly confused about the whole CM7 process and our current status. We were merged into the official CM source and thus will get nightlies soon

I was under the impression of three things: Only OFFICIAL Cyanogen devices got nightlies.

To become official, stock functionality must remain in tact. In our case particularly Webtop and Fingerprint scanner

It is likely that we will never get Webtop because it would have to be built from scratch and even the official Webtop was a messy hackjob on stock.

Does working HDMI mirroring count as a Webtop alternative or are we just getting an exception because realistically, rebuilding Webtop would be too much to ask of the team since they don't actually get paid for this and that could take quite some time.

Or am I dumb and neither a merge to CM nor having nightlies means that we are an official device?

I did try Googling for a bit of info. From what I saw, when a device merges with CM source it becomes official. Any explanation is greatly appreciated.

i guess it's just accepted that Webtop won't be included in CM7, and since Fingerprint scanner is a much more common hardware function (most Atrix users don't even use webtop regularly, i'm guessing. that's just my guess though, not an actual assessment of data)

either way though, once we merge into the official CM source, we will be a supported device. i believe Turl will be our device handler? (just a guess)

now, i may have no clue what i'm talking about, BUT this is my take on the situation. if i am wrong in any way, feel free to correct me!

That's about what I thought as well. I know that I personally don't ever use Webtop (haha mainly because I have been on CM7 which doesn't have it!) But I did get addicted to fingerprint during my time on Darkside yesterday. So much so that I almost couldn't remember how to unlock my phone without it! (exaggeration, but really I do like the scanner...when it works.)

So I was also correct in that merging into CM source *is* what signifies an official supported device. Well that's pretty awesome. Definitely gave my Atrix even more longevity

Battery stops charging to 100%

I flashed CM7 on my Atrix a few weeks ago. flawless install, everything ran great. I was getting awesome battery life too... Then, randomly, the battery stopped charging to 100% (at least the read-out stopped showing 100%). It will now only charge to 94-96%. Its weird, one day itll charge up to 94, then the next up to 96, but never to 100.

Ive wiped battery stats in CWM, and calibrated my battery, but to no avail. Any advice? Also, my battery life doesnt seem to be as good as it was initially. not sure if its a calibration thing or not though... but im losing a lot more on idle than i did initially. Im lucky if i get over 12 hours (screen time usually under 3 hours). obviously its not terrible battery life, but it seems like others in the CM7 threads experience much much better.

cheers

charge to max (94 of 96 or whatever) then delete battery stats, remove battery and plug phone into wall charger to get it into charging mode. then place battery back into phone, allow it to charge for a while. this should fix it (if not, i dunno what to do)

Removing ADW Launcher

I installed GO Launcher and associated apps after reading that it was faster and used less battery. My battery life actually got worse which I attributed to the continued presence of ADW. I tried to uninstall ADW but failed as I suppose it is locked into the CM7 rom.

So I opened Titanium Backup and found that long pressing on the ADW Launcher entry gave an option to Convert To User App. Once I did this I was able to unistall it.

So is this the correct way to remove a system app (or a rom included app)? I had read elsewhere about opening image files etc but this seemed pretty simple to do.

Yes, that is a normal way to remove sys apps:)

GolfCranK: How did you come to the conclusion that the embedded ADW was causing battery drains ? I presume you are talking screen on time and not standby.
Very unscientifically. lol. I only noticed shorter battery life after installing all the GO products so I assumed ADW was running in the background as well. I wasn't intending to return to it so I removed it to at least take it out of the equation.

No doubt that I was also playing with the Atrix a whole lot more while setting up and testing the GO suite so of course battery life would shrink.

One more question: As you can swap app. with TiBu to make them either system or user apps, is there any benefit in making an app a system app?

as far as i know, a system app just means it can't be moved to the SD card and it can't be uninstalled.

if you want to make sure there's no way someone can uninstall an app from your phone, you can make it a system app.

also, i'm not a big fan of Titanium Backup (only because i don't have the pro version :( ) so i use Rom Toolbox to do my uninstalling of system apps. it can also back up all your apps at once! it just doesn't do individual apps, so when i have to do that i use TiBu :(

Another webtop question

Since the /osh directory goes untouched in CyanogenMod what would be needed to use the original webtop under CM? Is it just a matter of reusing whatever startup scripts that came with the stock ROM or is there something more to it? Is there any documentation on how it even works that could be used to build an updated/customized version? I've seen the source posted on sourceforge (listed as a separate project called "Webtop") and started thinking about trying to replicate what they did using their source, but there are quite a few packages to deal with. nVidia has Tegra drivers (modules only :( and a Natty rootfs archive, but I haven't been able to get any kind of desktop working yet, but I can at least install packages with the following fix found on a blog titled "Programming rambling" (sorry I can't post links yet)
Being on chroot will cause some packages to fail when they are upgrading. Giving us an error message like this one:

start: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused
dpkg: error processing procps (--configure):

You can workaround this limitation by running these commands

$dpkg-divert --local --rename --add /sbin/initctl
Adding 'local diversion of /sbin/initctl to /sbin/initctl.distrib'
$ln -s /bin/true /sbin/initctl

Then you can run the upgrade, or do a dpkg --configure -a to upgrade the packages that were previously failing.
Edit: I did find a development thread explaining the inner workings of the webtop to some extent, but I'm still hoping to find more information.
