Been trying to get the VVM to work for a while but nothing seems to work. I even have a backup from a regular ROM when it was working, if I restore it, it doesn't work. I've tried different downloads here and there with the different versions. Nothing..nadda.. what's the trick?

How did you extract the sprint vm? i have an old nandroid backup of my old ROM
I have the stock ei22 ROM on my sd card, using root explorer I went into the stock ei22 rom, navigated to /system/app scrolled to the long pressed it selected extract, followed the "go to extracted" link, moved the voicemail apk into cm7's system/app, selected it after it was moved and hit install. Went back to my App drawer opened voicemail and it provisioned. Works like charm.let me know if this helps

Once you get the data restored, try sending a voicemail to [email protected].

can someone tell me how to get youmail working on a stockish rom? im runnning clean gb mtd by toadlife, but the same thing happens on a stock rom.
i download app, everything seems to install fine with no errors, but when i get to the part where it dials the number to forward vm to youmail instead of sprints vm, it beeps to confirmed it worked and then hangs up,but when i call from another phone to test i get my sprint vm, (i know the sound of it working bc i had it on my og droid, droid 2, nexus one).....sprint is only carrier i havent got it to work on. it did the same thing on my evo 4g.
any ideas? other than flashing cm7. id love to flash it but the only wifi tether app that will tether to my kindle fire is the hacked sprint version. and its just the epic too bc my friend has a rooted evo 4g and using wireless tether for root users 2.0.7, and my kindle fire sees it and connects fine. but using the same app on my epic, the kindle fire wont even find the signal...

This is because most tether apps don't allow our phones to run in infrastructure mode.... but this one does http://db.tt/Q6n9nOge. Go into settings and change first two settings... 1. Change to epic 4g. 2. Change to softap... there you go you should now be able to tether your kindle... I use this all the time to tether my ps3

Guess I'm still looking but here's a suggestion to try

Please excuse the noobish question but how does one blacklist the 9016 number so you don't get the text when you get the vm?
My short answer is try "Call Control" from google Market; it's free, has no ads but may not be the best alternative. The rest is included to possibly help limit calls to Sprint and detail the apps I've tried, thus far. Suggestions are welcomed.

Looking for best alternative method, I tried blocking with Sprint 3 different ways (Sprint account, text to 9999 (BLOCK 9016), and two levels of Sprint support). Support says their call blocker is set up to block 5 or more digits which includes short codes, so I cannot use it to block 9016. Customer Service did note that my initial request did not set block 9016 as a short-code but setting made no difference for me.

Tried paid app (Call Guard); didn't work, got refund. Tried "Call Control": works right out of the box and has no ads! But free version keeps a log of blacklisted/refused calls with no option to disable log (Not sure about the paid version: 7.99 but it has a 14 day free trial). Apparently, someone already reported 9016 in the community black list. There is also a user blacklist to personalize. "Call Control" is a bit of a ram hog, it's claiming 13MB of my Ram, ATM.

Sprint couldn't get past the filter to reach me or leave a voicemail so I disabled the filters for community blacklist and unknown or anonymous callers, temporarily (still have 9016 blacklisted). I've sent a couple replies to Sprint asking that their call blocker accept 4 digit short-codes for blacklisting. Not sure if the 5-digit limitation applies to Sprint business phones?

I ended up downloading and installing SPC (https://market.android.com/details?...=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5zdXBlcmRyb2lkLnNwYyJd). Doesn't look to be taking up much ram or battery. I run several widgets and got over 14 hours on battery today. That's with listening to google music to and from work and heavy use while at work.

Thanks MajicManDroid, I saw that one mentioned in an earlier post, I'll keep that one in mind to try later. Glad to see you found a away. (Forums rules (low posts) required me to delete your quoted url in order to reply to quote.)

I did start the full trial on the "Call Control" app. I still cannot find a way to disable the block log 9016 entries but at least there is a "delete all" option. At one point I had to reboot phone because my calls were going to voice mail instead of ringing. Working correctly, ATM. I'm still on CM nightly #16.

Last night, I tried some antivirus apps but as others have said, they will disable VVM when blocking the 9016 text. Anyone found one or a method (would a script work?) that doesn't disable VVM? TIA!

Searching the forums, some have had success with using Sprint's 9999 call-block to block 9016 texts while others have not. I now disagree with Support's answer above; I sent text "block 091", to which Sprint replied, "Sorry, the sender must be at least 4 characters long". Not 5 as I was told before; Block 9016 should be legit for all users.

Thought I'd add my + 1 for Google Voice (I went the non integration route). It's powerful and simple at the same time. Gives you visual VM with the added bonus of being able to manage/save/delete/export messages on the computer as well. In addition to the application you can choose to have the VMs sent to you by email and/or text. The setup procedure eliminates the Sprint texts.

.... And those are just the VM advantages.

Google voice works great for me. I have used it on my ns4g and now my epic. Would like to turn off the text side off it but when I changed phones all my texts were backed up. they really don't matter to me as I save what I want. Other than that Google voice is great!

I think SPC creators are dirty, dirty spammers...

So I switched over to CM7 (love it!) from one of the ACS roms, and quickly ran into the 9016 problem. The small and free Redlist isn't on the market anymore, so I downloaded SPC as some people have recommended.

Within a day, I started getting random spam MMS and Gmail Talk invites. Now, the phone is connected to an old Gmail account (more than seven years old now), and I have jealously guarded the address, giving it out only to close friends and family, never using it in commercial communications, forums, etc.

Up until this, I can count on a single hand the number of email spam that got through Google's normal filter, and I have never gotten a Talk invite from someone I didn't know. Now I have gotten several in a few days.

I have not given my address to anybody new, nor installed any new apps other than SPC in over a month. I suppose it is possible that a contact's email address book or some other relevant database could have been compromised, but that would be extremely coincidental. It is up to you to decide, but in my mind I have little doubt that the problem lies with SPC.

Let me also apologize for using a throwaway username to post this message. My normal username, along with the timing of this post, could be used by SPC to make a pretty good guess about the identity of the aforementioned account. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I think that spamming bastards are also likely to be vindictive bastards.

On the lighter side, I find it really funny that the Gmail Talk invites were all the type of spam that is like '[email protected]' or that sort of thing. SPC and these sort of apps heavily suggest (sometimes outright say) in their descriptions that they are intended for people who cheat on their SOs. I got a good chuckle imagining someone cheating, installing this app to cover their tracks, suddenly getting all sorts of invites like this, and freaking out! Ha! Serves them right, but I still hate you SPC.
