Assuming your rooted, what's happening is the seamless update feature is repeatedly downloading and attempting to install in background and failing since there is root. Turn off automatic updates in developer options and/or sideload newest ota

I'm having this same issue on my PIxel XL. I disabled the automatic updates and hoping that works. I'd like to update to the latest 7.1.1 without losing root and/or data. Anyway to do that without having to fully unroot or factory reset?

https://developers.google.com/android/ota you can download ota updates here. There are directions listed on how to manually apply them. These will not reset your phone, just apply the update. After first boot after updating, reboot into recovery and reapply root. I have not installed twrp so cannot verify that trwp based root flash works this way.

Right...so I will lose root. I was hoping to avoid that. I'll have to download the latest boot-to-root.img from Chainfire. Then reapply all my root settings (i.e. build.prop modifications). I don't have TWRP either.

I am having the same problem with com.qti.service.colorservice using large amounts of data. It just started within the past 24 hours, 72 hours after updating to 7.1.1. I am NOT rooted.

It's Still There

Just got my new Pixel XL yesterday and rooted it. Later I noticed that the firewall, (AFWall+), was blocking lots of packets for com.qti.service.colorservice.

I tried disabling it, along with the two other com.qti.* apps, but it still keeps trying anyway!

I'm currently on the March 5 security update, and Automatic system updates in Developer Options is turned off.

You could check to see if the following might stop the update. It does stop the update area in settings from working, so it's possible that it might also stop the automatic download. I found out that the following keeps my phone awake, and I'd rather just update the phone rather than not having deep sleep, so I'll try FlashFire next month.

EDIT: I suppose trying Pure Nexus ROM may be another avenue to avoid the update issue on my phone, instead of FlashFire.

Thanks for the help! I tried disabling the SystemUpdateService under Google Play Services, but the firewall is still blocking traffic from com.qti.service.colorservice about once per minute.

com.quicinc.cne.CNEService.CNEServiceApp and com.qti.service.colorservice are backdoor trojans (they have quite a few other names but all belong to the same group) to access and monitor your device. You need to check to see if it establishes any strange background connections. Please don't ask me how I know but I feel that I have the responsibility to warn everyone.

Come on, this is scare mongering. You need to provide SOME proof or you're just spreading FUD for no reason. This thread already goes into detail about what those services do legitimately (and why there's data drain), you could at least do the same with your claim.

Hey!

I stumpled upon this thread, because I have a similar issue. I have a Moto G5, rooted and with a 7.0 debloated stockrom (no/blocked googleapps except chrome).
I'm using AFWall+ to "block" apps phoning out, but there is one app with the ID:1000 / Name: com.qti.service.colorservice which is constantly trying to break out. The AFWall log gives me the IPs to which this "service" is phoning. There are at least 15 IPs alone and all are starting with 52.85.184. For example 52.85.184.214 ; .215, .73, .74 and so on. All of them are Amazon hosted.

Don't know what to do with this information. What I know is, that this "service" is not draining my dataplan but my battery.

It's a system app made by Qualcomm (Qualcomm Technology Inc.). The package is tiny and has stuff referring to sunrise and sunset stuff. I assume it's to change your screen temp based on the time of day. I don't know why it has to send data back & forth with a remote server to figure out when sunrise and sunset is when the Earth's rotation is pretty predictable and can be calculated with a simple formula involving your latitude to alleviate our paranoia and data usage.

You may try manually setting sunrise and sunset times if you use a night mode on your phone to see if that makes it stop the traffic. Just guessing.
